Yes it was at Amsterdam Airport

Like you, heard of it. Unsure how, radio probably. Decided I didn't want to upset myself by looking for it and reading the details.

I think it was a suicide.  It's been done before.

I think it would have to be suicide.

Walking into a jet engine is something you can do accidentally.

A tragedy for all concerned.

O-G - Your use of the term 'radio' to describe someone disturbed enough to take their own life is offensive to people who suffer from the vast degrees of mental illness that affect humanity.

A little compassion is in order here I think, not flippant rhyming slang.

From what I`ve heard, it's been confirmed that it was.

Andy Hughes, I think OG means he heard about it on the radio.

ANDY, I read OG's use of, "radio" to mean that was how he heard of the incident, i.e. on the radio.

That's how I read OG's post as well.

OP, such a tragic story however it came about... I had missed it.

Quote from the Evening Standard:

"A man who died inside an airplane’s engine at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam had climbed inside the machine intentionally, police believe.

Passengers and crew were reportedly on board the plane, a KLM flight bound for Billund in Denmark - home of Legoland - when the tragedy happened at roughly 3pm on Wednesday.

Royal Netherlands Marechaussee force, which is running the investigation, said on Thursday the man was a member of staff at the airport, and had “intentionally climbed into the engine”.

"The deceased man has been identified as an employee of a company operating at the airport,” said a force spokesperson.

"The investigation has revealed that he intentionally climbed into the engine, indicating this is a case of suicide."

O-G - I have re-read your post and realise that I misunderstood it.

I withdraw my criticism and offer my unreserved apology for it.

Tragic.

And please, could Andy's unfounded remark be removed, please? It's not fair on O-G.

Pastafreak - I have explained my error and apologised for it.

It demonstrates that reading quickly can lead to misunderstanding.

I am happy to own my mistake.

If another Mod sees fit to remove it, that is their decision.

Best that the comment remains to remind readers of the us and them situation that exists on what remains of Answerbank.

Don't be ridiculous Douglas.

I made a mistake, owned up to it, and apologised, as an AB'er.

Stop stirring up trouble.

Andy you are absolutely right, it was a genuine mistake but the answers removed is what makes people feel like Douglas. What Bednobs herself said to you was hardly offensive, more a cheeky comment between 2 people who've known one another online for years. There was no need to remove it nor protect you in that way.

Prudie - I do not need 'protecting' and I am not going to be drawn into an off-thread conversation about moderation.

The post was abusive, contravening Site Rules, and was removed accordingly.

Let's leave it there.
