How is giving the Africans £84m going to help? We've been bunging the French to no effect, why should Africa be any different? They'll just trouser the dosh and nothing will change.

Well, lining the frog's pockets did absolutely nothing, so you would've thought they'd have twigged that throwing money at other countries will do nothing.

may as well have a bonfire with the cash, all the live aid concerts made 0 difference and all the other charities, have a live cash burn on tv, headline labour improving the uk, with ed miliband running around trying to catch the cash while shouting pollution...

"How is giving the Africans £84m going to help?"

It isn't. As you say, the money will be trousered and won't get anywhere near the "health and education" projects Mr Starmer believes it will.

People in those countries know where their health and education facilities can be found - in Europe and in particular here in the UK.

It also demonstrates that Mr Starmer knows that many of the illegal migrants arriving here are not fleeing persecution in their homelands (leaving aside the fact that they are fleeing France, not Africa). They simply don't like it where they are; they are seeking a "new life" and that is not the function of the asylum system.

I'm not sure what drives such moves as this. It is either the ignorance and/or naivety of politicians or it is simply that they think that doing something completely useless is better than doing nothing at all. That would be fine if it wasn't at a cost of £84m. That would fund getting on for 2,000 nurses.

How about finding out where they get the boats from, and then prevent their use?  And all the lifejackets.

They tried that didn't they, brainiac? Anyway, the only way to stop the boats is to have a strong deterrent, and we haven't got one.

How do they get into France in the first instance, is it overland or by boat?

Bonkers.

Well, lining the frog's pockets did absolutely nothing, so you would've thought they'd have twigged that throwing money at other countries will do nothing.

seeing the riots in leeds etc, is the tip of the iceberg, the illegals have the same mindset as they are from similar countries where riots are an everyday occurrence, look at pakistan for example its mob rules there, same in african countries just not reported. they are just bringing culture here, mantra diversty makes us stronger..

The theory goes that if you improve where they live they wont want to leave, sort of thing that has happened in Poland.

The elephant in the room is the tyrants that run these countries though.  Any money going there just goes straight to them, those at the bottom continue to live in real povery (not the UK poverty).

So it is pointless, surley SKS knows this?

Can't be any worse than spending £500 million in an African country for *** all like the last lot did.

^^^ 2 wrongs etc.

Have a day off gromit, if this was the Tories doing it you'd be pebble dashing your screen with organic peace muesli!

//Can't be any worse than spending £500 million in an African country for *** all like the last lot did.//

Except it wasnt for f all was it.  In fact according to the Irish (who were not best pleased) it was starting to work as a deterrant which its what it really was.

But of course your beloved labour (having opposed it in the HoC and their lefty lawyer mates) canned it without having anything else in place.

It seems an attempt to sort cause rather that symptom, but as pointed out, one has no confidence it'd change much; and for the UK alone to try to tackle the cause it'd be far too costly anyway. If the world in general decided to provide freebies to presently poorer nations that may help, but when everywhere has obligations of their own they find difficult to fund, it ain't ever likely to happen.

Besides the poorer country governments themselves should look to why their people are so badly off, why their economy isn't working well, and try to change that.

Respect for looking at the issue, but far less for the answer they came up with.

We used to tackle the cause by invading and civilising these people in their own country. They crave that now but sadly they are usually ruled by some despot or other.

“How do they get into France in the first instance, is it overland or by boat?”

One of the principle routes into Europe from Africa is via the tiny Italian island of Lampedusa. This island has a population of about 6,000 and is just 8 square miles in size. It lies south of Sicily and is about 150 miles north of the coast of Libya.

In one day, last September, 120 boats arrived in Lampedusa carrying more than 7,000 people. Once there they are transferred to mainland Italy and from there, courtesy of the ridiculous Schengen Agreement, they can head for the destination of their choice.

Most of Africa is a lost cause. The £85m that has been donated to improve its education and health facilities will simply be lost in the noise. The only way to stop this invasion is for European nations to physically prevent the boats from landing. For some reason they are reluctant to do that, so it seems we’re stuck with it.

They crave invasion and being civilised by whitey?

Question Author

well they risk everything to come to whitey's country.

What one wants is sometimes not realised as the mind goes into denial. Envy can be an awful thing, especially if it encourages an individual or population to take what they insist they want from others; especially so if they then fail to stop themselves corrupting it so it becomes like that which they already had and were apparently rejecting.
