Might we see a change of heart as 'the market' rather than our leaders continue to run the country?

Ruin not run

There are numerous petitions objecting to the removal of WFA for all pensioners, set up by respected bodies and charities. I'm hoping for a change but not expecting.

To all those, yes, you Gulliver, I simply say I told you so.

Nuff said.

Surely decisions should be made based on Market forces to which the Government has little control (other than make it worse -Millipede I'm looking at you)?

I doubt Robber Reeves will care though.  Pure nasty.

Good afternoon,

Why is the MP 'pure nasty' for cutting the WFA?

If the country cannot afford it, and it should always have been means tested.

The strikes between rail and the Drs were costing the country more than the payrise that was being asked for.

Something needs to be done to bring the country back to financial stability.

REally?  But it can afford to throw money at ILLEGAL migrants, hand stacks to corrupt Governments for so called 'Global warming', Hand exee3ssive payouts to those that gave Labour wheelbarrows of cash.

There was plenty of cash until Robber Reeves spent it.  She is nasty because she doesnt care pensioners may well have to choose heat or eat.

Evil woman.

The Winter Fuel Allowance was an election bribe by Gordon Brown in 1997. It worked and Labour got elected and it has been a burden on every Chancellor ever since but they have all been too cowardly to scrap it.
Reeves is only doing it because Labour have a huge landslide majority.

No Robber Reeves is a nasty person who us targetting Pensioners becasuse they are easy.

The sum is a paltry amount in the grand scheme of things and really is just a part of the State Pension.

No doubt round 2 of the pensioners attacks will come in November.

Gromit, if it was an election bribe by Brown to get pensioners to vote for them they will be losing a lot of votes at the next one.  Or is she hoping many of us die of the cold by then.

The WFA was given to everyone over a certain age regardless of whether they needed it. This led to multimillionaires e.g. Cliff Richard and Judi Dench being sent it. It is right to leave it for the poorest pensioners only.

Because there was a minority of celebrities and millionaires receiving this benefit, is it right that the majority of pensioners should suffer because of the few?

I'm not sure of the percentages involved, how many pensioners 'need', merit the allowance, and how many don't. My personal experience is that I have 20 friends whose retirement income is such that they don't need the WFA, my sister's experience is the complete opposite - she has at least 20 friends who will really struggle without the WFA.

DDIL: "Why is the MP 'pure nasty' for cutting the WFA?

If the country cannot afford it, and it should always have been means tested." - The WFA costs £3bn, we are giving foriegners £11.6bn to help with climate change, that's taking the peace me old china!

I am afraid I do not understand your last comment to me.

I explained why it's "pure nasty" to cut the WFA from our own pensioners whilst giving £11.6bn to foriegners. I'd have thought that you'd be able to grasp that.

I think you should read my post on the oher thread about this, jo.

But unless Cliff Richard or Judi Dench were claiming their State Pension, they would not have received the WFA.

14.57, JD and CR shouldn't even be receiving the SP then?

I know a gentleman who didn't need it, didn't want it, so asked not to be sent it.  He was told it wasn't possible to do that so he now sends all of it to a few charities.

My husband received the WPA. He is not in the league of Cliff and Judi, but the allowance contributed nicely to his wine fund. I know there are lots of others lucky enough to be in that situation.

It was right to withdraw it by The Chancellor.

You dont have to take the State Pension if you dont want it.  You can permenatly 'delay' taking it.

//It is right to leave it for the poorest pensioners only. //

I agree but that is not what is happening here, only those that didnt bother to save a penny into a pension will get it those that scrimped to have a couple fo bob wont.  That is wrong and Nasty.

The big problem with means testing it was that everytime they looked into it the cost of admin exceeded the saving so they left it.  But, one way to do it would be to give it as tax relief to those with incomes below the minimum wage.  The coding for that with the HMRC should be very simple.
