Illegal to take holidays whenever you want? I thought this was a free country?

I see that we have a bunch of 'well-behaved' adults here. lol. Dont they like to pick on kids. Kids actually learn far more when on holiday . What makes me laugh is when schools offer amazingly expensive school trips away from home. They call it ' Education' , the kids call it holiday(especially those who never leave home at all because their family cannot afford it) and the teachers get a free trip. My son's ski trip came to �600. The teachers apparently had a real ol boozy time in the evenings. Nothing wrong with that. So lighten up everybody - just cause you're not a kid anymore.

From experience kids easily catch up with their school work. The teachers NEVER give or offer private tuition. Working in the classrooms, kids who have been on holiday come back with a wealth of information and inspire the class. Lift the presssure of the kids. Leave them alone - you bullies. Let them get out sometimes.

"Kids actually learn far more when on holiday ." - yes, I am sure that on 2 weeks holiday to Spain (which is the most popular holiday destination) they learn a lot. After all, most children speak Spanish, can tell you all about the country, etc.

"Let them get out sometimes." - oh ok, how about we let them have 6 weeks in summer, 2 weeks at Christmas, Easter, half term, bank holidays and 'Baker' days.

That is a good point you raise about school trips, although I have only been on educational trips.

i would rather my kids learn about other places, cultures, and have a lot of fun and sun away from this dreary country for 2 weeks each year out of their 10 YEAR education!

fair enough if exams are coming up it may not be a good idea, but every other year, missing 2 weeks of algebra and english lit and P.E etc is not something i would consider a hindrance to their future.

i'd rather give my kids the time of their lives, spending quality time with their parents, having fun and taking away lifelong memories.

its like that old adage - on your deathbed you don't wish you'd spent more hours in the office - well, neither will you think about that few weeks of maths and geography etc that you missed.

No, I think he is jealous and would like to be 14. He sounds inexperienced though - He thinks that ALL parents go to Spain and Drink on the beach. Ha Ha. He needs to get out more and travel - learn about wealth of cultures out there - best time is when your young and if you are lucky enough, with family.

Kept in institute for 10 years or longer is fine - can you imagine some familes with 3+ children - what a long stretch it must be as each child grows up. THe government is good at making up ridiculous laws. Next it will be boarding school for everyone - it feels like a 'commi' govt. sometimes. My children have never suffered or lacked education. My eldest has got 10As in 8 GCSEs. It all depends on the individual chid and families. This law sounds like yet another 'BLANKET COVER' law for those who miss exams, etc. and don't want to learn anything.

Also, many Junior schools and school fields are being sold to developers and village greens hardly exist. Where is childhood? I think some people want childhood to be a only a 'school'. My children went to After School Clubs - not much choice - and it cost �8 per child/per day for a few hours. Not many people are lucky enough to live near a park/green/quiet road.

My opinion is that if you make a choice to have children, you then can't really whinge on how much it costs to take them on holidays. I think it's good that they are confined to the 6 week period, because that means when i take my holidays, i dont have to put up with other peoples screaming badly behaved brats. Hurrah!

well, that is true. However, it is your perogative to disagree with me. Seems noone has a perogative to disagree with you though. I thought the aim of this site was to have questions answered, and sometimes engage in debate, not to agree with question posers all of the time. By contibuting to this thread, i am giving you my opinion, which differs from yours. Isn't that what a free country is about, to go back to your original question. I don't like children, and am glad i can go on holiday at other times so i dont have to do too much interracting with them. Bless you that you "feel sorry for me" but believe me, there is no need for you to get emotionally or empathatically involved with me on that level at all!

in actual fact, i dont really care what freedoms the government take away from parents, as i am not one and dont intend being one. Don't you play their game anyway by taking free handouts of child support every month? I expect because they have bought you they feel they have the right to lay down some rules as regards to what you do with them. If you care this much about it, teach your child yourself, put them in private school or whatever

You remind me of a bitter and twisted person I knew who loathed children. Why are you commenting on this issue if you dont care? Yes, you give your opinion but in such a way where you spell out your hatred."i dont have to put up with other people's screaming brats" . Sounds like a narrow perception of children.

I have to work full time and that is my choice. So in a way, I have the best of both worlds. You just look after yourself and don't worry about other people's children. If you dont care I dont care about your point of view either.
