A holiday during term time does no harm whatsoever. My parents always took us during school term because of budget and also my father could not take holiday during school holidays because there were other working mums who applied for Holiday Leave in his office, first. It was always OK'd by the school, no exams missed and towards end of term. There were plenty of children who were off sick sometimes for 2 weeks - they had no choice but to miss school. But they were given enough homework to catch up.
It has nothing to do with educational expectations being less when taking holiday during term time. Families who may do this actually look for a better quality of holiday for their money. Nothing wrong with that. Quality meaing one can go further afield instead of being tied down to camping and Costa Da Sol which would normally be the only affordable type of holiday. My family went camping a lot and as my parents were getting older decided to go to more interesting places but had a budget. THere is no excuse for extremely high cost of holidays during the school holidays. It is impossible. We end up not being able to go and if we somehow managed to we would also pay double charges on all the rides, excursions on top of holiday cost. Free has been used in the wrong context year but I understand the what they mean - and that is CHOICE. So do not tie us down when other families who do not put education first would rather their children stay and have even less holiday weeks so that they can earn more money. Children are not being put first but adult with their own selfish views. My parents only wanted the best holiday for us and I love them more for that.
This law is an utter joke. When you see what school's turn kids into lately I think everyone would be better off home educated.
As far as I knew it is law that every child has an education, but not law as to where it is educated. Take children on holidays with their study books and who could do a thing about it?
