Intolerance

If there's one thing really ticks me off it's intolerance. Nothing makes me so intolerant of someone than if they show a lack of tolerance for others:)
I've just answered yet another quesiton showing huge ignorance,bigotry and intolerance for a racial group and it's really made my blood boil.
So my question is this, I have huge faults but disliking people because of their sex, ethnicity, orientation, racial group, religious group etc isn't one of them. Are you prejeudiced against any group if you really are honest?

I know the question you mean nox. i am not against any groups in ant way but the point i was getting across was these irish travellers/ whatever they are stealing and sellind drugs to minors i will not tolerate that

The trouble is Nox, on this subject you seem to have been lucky in your dealings with travellers and hence have a more rosy view than most. Ask anyone in Bournemouth about them where I live and no one seems to have had anything but problems. They wreck public facilities, steal anything that isn't nailed down, leave crap everywhere for already over burdenned council tax payers to clean up. Is it any wonder that the views you refer to prevail?

So that's one small group then boro which is a fair enough comment. However why do people feel the need to identify people's racial ethnicity? White, non travelling English people also sell drugs, so why the absolute HATE, and there is no other word for it, against the travelling community, the vast majority of which are perfectly law abiding?
It wasn't actually your post I was thinking of either, just to clarify, but just the whole unpleasant shocking question.

I honestly don't have a rosy view of em loosehead. I have a filthy great scar across my face given to me by a traveller in a fight, I'm under no illusions as to what some of em are like, I'm just saying that it is morally wrong to hate anyone because of their ethnicity, sex, sexual persuasion etc.
Dislike individuals by all means, but to hate a whole ethnic group is by definition wrong surely?

the only group of people I have no time for are the ones that contribute nothing to society but claim benefits and do work for cash in hand, I know a lot of people that claim invalidity benefits and mobility allowance, yet still manage to do a full days work for cash,

being totally honest nox, im not aware of being prejeudiced to anyone,,,,,,, but i do admit to being unsympathetic to anyone who is guilty of child abuse and i find it very difficult to change my views on the issue , although i have spoken extensively to collegues who work with this group of people my views remain the same,,,,,,,,,, and i am aware this is not a very christian attitude.

Nox, I don't know the thread that you have in mind but I do see a lot of intolerance here. I have personal opinions and could be classified as prejudiced but I keep those comments in my mind and not typed or shared here because its not the place to do so, is it? Its a shame that others cannot do the same thing as I do see sufficient intolerance and impatience at times on AB and it comes from names I don't recognise - not the well known posters I am getting to know but from the minority. Thankfully the more well known names see as intolerant people.Yes - there is intolerance here but I think its everywhere on the WWW. I have been brought up to be tolerant of another persons views and it shocks me to find how many are not the same way inclined on AB.

Toatally agree ray. I absolutely dispise benefit cheats and would not hesitate grassing them up. I want my �600.00 pm to go to people who are geniunly in need

I have no tolerance of them either Crete, but since they cover all ethnic persuasions etc that wasn't really what I meant. I'm talking about the alarming views I sometimes see on here usually about gay people,gypsies, muslims etc. It honestly sometimes seems like an intolerance free for all.

Noxy, dear Sir, I think that is the problem. I strongly believe I am not ignorant. Whatever measure you use for intelligence such as academic achievments, social staus, IQ, professions, what friends think of you, ability to finish crosswords etc, I am probably above average.

But I have huge intolerances. But at the same time I am very tolerant of other marginal groups.

Further, my intolerances are based on personal experience, not pre-judging them.

I can honestly say I have NEVER met, known of or even spoken to a decent Welsh person. Never. I stayed in various Welsh locations. Never met an honest person there.

Likewise, I do not like middle eastern Muslims. I personally find them evil. Again, never met a nice one.

However, I have never met a bad Jew, or a homosexual who isn't genuinely nice. Further, most of the Sikhs I have met (not many granted) and near enough all of the far east (including Indonesian muslims) tend to be respectful and dignified humans. So this view hardly makes me BNPO material.

However, I am intolerant of issues. Totally in favour of the death penalty and on the rare occassion I wish harm on people, i mean it 100 percent.

Noxy, I am indifferent about the Irish. Yes we fought a war with them for 800 years, but I believe Republican values are virtually the same as the British, it is just politics. However, Gerry Adams and his family deserve to die.

I Feel the same as you regarding Gypsies nox, as you say good and bad in all people, but it does sadden me when the insults about them abound as my nan was the sweetest, cleanest lady I ever met and my grandad was so honest, and worked till he died aged 79, never claimed a penny and lived his whole life in a vardo (caravan)

I had close friends from the travelling community. They are very loyal, family orientated people. Their homes are immaculate and they basically live for family, to the extent that their child was taken out of secondary school to be educated at home because they disapproved of the bad influences at the school.

However within the same community were kneecappings, trailer homes burnt down or smashed up during a raid by rival families (causing women and children to have to flee on foot), son sent out to pick up bottles of milk off doorsteps.

I think we have to accept that travellers do present quite an intimidating presence to many people and not many of us would venture onto their sites. I suppose they need to stand up for themselves. My friend (a woman) certainly could in no uncertain terms. They are definitely subjected to prejudice and were in the past occasionally refused entrance into restaurants, pubs etc. Mind you, they defend their own so furiously that fights broke out on occasions when I was there - for instance a child in the play area of a pub pushed their child and they started a fight with the boy's father!!!

Some live by the rules, pay tax, work hard, bring up their kids to do the same. But equally many don't do any of these and I guess most of us would object to having a messy, noisy, squalid (where does the human waste go?) traveller site next to our homes.

I think Noxlumus is one of the most balanced people on this website - from what I've seen of his answers - but you do need to take a equally balanced view of the down side.

And yes there are bad apples in all barrels. The only people I think I am prejudiced against are men who are violent or controlling to their wives or partners (because I've had experience) and anyone who uses violence to put across their views.
