it puts a tear in my eye to hear that yet another child has been shot dead by these idiots on our streets, the law must get real tough on these people, my partner gave birth to our son in 1999 & knowing what i know now i would have been frightend for my childs future as these kids themselves can go round & take another life just to act big to thier friends,a life sentence for these thugs is not punishment but its a start, for ending the life of a person.!!!!

I can't begin to think what those poor parents are going through. My children are grown up now but the thought that anyone would deliberately harm either of them makes my blood boil!
The problem is that in a lot of cases, even if they are jailed, it won't be for life. You hear a lot in the news about prison being for rehabilitation but it is certainly no deterrent for these youngsters.
I agree with what you say, when I read about young Rhys, I got a lump in my throat, but what can be done about it?.

All you can do, is address all the things that have led to this.

Human Rights.
Absent Fathers.
Parents not being responsible.
Lack of a legal deterrant.
Political Correctness.
A next to useless Police Force.

probably a few more, just can't think of them now.

Me, if the person, adult or child who is old enough to know right from wrong, Murders someone, execute them, they won't do it again.

One potatoe, two potatoe, three potatoe knee jerk.
Four potatoe, five potatoe, six potatoe, go beserk
Seven potatoe, eight potatoe wring your hands and cry
Nine potatoe, ten potatoe, never ask the reason why,,,

(c) Mardy Bum.
Hi China,
I've read the lyrics of Mardy Bun, and fail to see the connection, maybe you could enlighten me.

As far as my previous answer is concerned, thats my hard and fast belief, (no knee jerk), always has been, I was born in the forties, and so remember a much more peaceful country, where people could walk through a city centre without worring if they were going to be mugged, old peope were respected, shootings, stabbings, muggings, were rare.

And yes, we had the death penalty, that and prison was a deterrant, and they worked, not like today, where criminals af any age aren't afraid to commit, because if they're caught, its just a slap on the wrist.
this mamby pamby country is a lot to blame, teachers arent allowed to hit the children if they have done wrong at school, parents can get into trouble if they do it,, children can and do get away with so much these days, they just laugh at the police and criminal justice, just take teh case of the killers of jamie bulger, soon to be released, sent abroad, given new identities and as to help them along the way, who said crime doesnt pay!!!
that should say money to help them!

Apologies Lonnie - Contributing to a debate on gun crime while not entirely sober is possibly not the best thing to do.

In answer to your question, 'Mardybum' was actually a nickname of mine and has no connection to the rather spiffing Arctic Monkeys song.

Apologies to the thread author too.

As things are at the moment, the problem with being "Realy tough on these people" is; these people aren't these people until a life has been wasted, then there is one of those people you refer to. It's a bit late then 'though. I haven't got an answer to the problem that would be anything like generaly accepted so I won't bleet on about it. but I think Lonnies first response comes close to a begining for a solution. It is going to take some kind of social sea change before things can be put back in place enabling the average law abiding person to be at large in the outside world without fear of god only knows what. What is that revolutionary new touchstone going to be? I am just as much in awe of that as anything going on at the mo. If it was an organised adversary at least we could meet it at its own game, but it's a blind virilant cancer which is bringing a just and fair society to its death throws.
On that cheery note I'm off for a walk in the countryside; no rain forecasted for a day or two. Oh and Jack, in case you're wondering, I'm all right. I think.
Would all the human rights people still side with these scum if one of their own was killed? I think not!
Hello Lonnie,

Can you tell me how Human Rights & Political Correctness have contributed to Rhys's murder.

Many thanks in anticipation.

If you have time, could you also tell me how the lack of legal deterrent have stopped atrocities in America.
Hi oneeyedvic
Good questions,

Human Rights and Political Correctness.
From my perspective, there's not too much of a difference, there is of course, but not much, they merge, and sometimes its difficult to distinguish between the two.

of course, these are my views, which probably differ from yours and a few others.

Neither of these by themselves, I believe, are contributaries, but put together, with all the other things I listed, and they are, they are all linked.

Unfortunately, it would take to long to go into it in detail, but you only have to take the past ten years, to see how much this country has deteriorated, and in the main, Political Correctness, and this misbegotten Human Rights take much of the blame, they spread into every corner of our society.

America,
Not really interested, its a different culture, we near enough speak the same language, but thats about it.

China Doll,
No problem, we've all apologised for something at one time or another, good of you to come back with that.

be interesting to know how you came by that nickname, or is it a bit personel.
Personal. I can't spell for toffee but I know that bit so hope you'll forgive me jumping in with my size nines. Oh it's contributed to a nice week end for me. You wouldn't believe it but I'm easily pleased. Make the most of what's left of this bank hol. everyone. There aren't too many bank hols in any one year, so, goodnight and, please, don't have nightmares.
No probs. I try not to do drunk and disorderly in any walk of life.

Though the fact that I functioned well enough to write a verse (allbeit a bad one) is something of an achievement.

It's not that personal. Mardybum was a nick name given to me by a guy I lived with a few years a go. It was supposed to be ironic I think because although I have a cynacal (sp), sarky nature I'm actually rarely grumpy.

Mardy just kind of stuck after that.

Gromit called me 'nowty' recently which apparently means the same thing and I kind of liked that too.

But I really am actually quite a cheerful little soul... honest!
the killers of james bulger were released about 7 years ago.

they are apparently living with false identities.
