I had delivered a lecture to some recruits and sent them for a coffee break, I wandered into the Sgt's Mess and everyone was watching sky news, the first tower was up in smoke, someone told me that a aircraft had crashed into it, I asked "was it pilot error or what"? when the second airplane smashed int the building, I turned to my friend and said "well it looks like we're at war".
where were you? what were you doing when you heard the news?

I was at work redcrx e-mailed to say stick radio on as twin towers had been hit and I have to admit I had no idea then what twin towers were. Then we put radio on in office and events unfolded throughout the day. I remember going up pub after work and they had all tvs on in there. Doesnt seem that long ago either. takling your younger brother confused?? Dont lie lol
I was picking my kids up from school and heard various stories about what had happened. I drove home thinking it was impossible, only to see the utter devastation on my tv.
I still remember the cold shiver going through me every time i think of those planes slamming into the buildings. It still is a shock now, when this terrible event is remembered.

I was in Buckingham Palace. We had spent some time walking round the Palace and were wandering out of the grounds to a side gate when we heard the security police talking about it. Back on our coach we all listened to the news reports on the radio. In the meantime, my husband was at home going bananas because my phone was switched off, and there had been some concern earlier that London was also going to be targetted.
I was at home when the first 'plane hit and my wife called me in to see the TV. I had to go out almost immediately and spent the time away pondering what had happened; it was the topic of conversation with everybody..........
Then I got back home to find out that a second 'plane had hit the other tower and that there was wall to wall coverage (and speculation)........
Then we slowly found out about the Pentagon attack and the possibility of another potential attack which had been foiled; this was beacause of the flight 93 crash.
Bin Laden and Al Qaeda didn't even enter my mind. I thought about the Chechens, or some right-wing 'homeland' American terrorists............I wasn't, at that stage worried about being dragged into an unwinable war.......

our secruity alert status went through the roof, all leave was cancelled, none of us got home before 2 AM, we were all up for a fight as most of the senior NCO's had been on exchange trips to the USA and their Sgt's/officers had come over her we had freinds in the American Army. We knew it would only be a matter of time before we went into Iraq, we didn't even consider Afghanistan until we heard bin laden was hiding there,
I was at work when a colleague told me about it. I didn't believe him because he's notorious for wind-ups.
Anyway, they wheels a big flat screen TV into our canteen area, and we sat watching the news (by this time the second plane had crashed).
I remember thinking at the time, "This can't be real...it looks like a film...some sort of Bruce Willis-type disaster movie">
We work with a lot of Americans from New York and it was pretty nasty in the afternoon as they came back from lunch to be told of what happened.

InOxford with my son who was taking tests to sign up for the RAF.
We were waiting for the coach home and I went to get a drink from the shop at about 2pm. It was all over the front of the Evening Standard early edtion and on the news of the small tv behind the counter.
I thought 'ohoh this is going to pi** the US off.'
I thought prehaps Bush would be tempted to hit the button and that would be that.

I was in my living room playing chess (not a common occurence) with my friend who my mum was hiring as a gardener to help him out over the summer. His girlfriend (and also my friend) was also there watching TV trying to find some programme but all that was showing on the stations was the news and on one single channel some childrens teddy bear show, so my friend told me my TV must be broken because I was only getting 2 channels (we were mere children, well in a way, we were 18 so forgive us our idiocy!) I took the control and tried to sort it out and then we realised it was actually a newsflash on all the channels. It was just after the 1st plane had gone into the building and the reports were only saying something like, 'the world trade centre has collapsed' so my gardening friend said, 'ha ha, imagine if it had actually collapsed!' We in our idiocy thought they meant something to do with the economy collapsing, like the Wall Street Crash, and then, as if on cue, in flew the other plane, crashed into the building and brought us young things to reality.
Was at work - got a phone call from a colleague saying a plane had hit. We thought a little cesna or something - obviuosly thought it was an accident. Looked at CNN, saw it was an airliner. Got TV on in time to see 2nd plane hit. Watched TV for the morning, enough to see the two towers collapse.
I remember thinking for the rest of the day (and on 11th Sep every since) that I was thouroughly ashamed that human beings could do this to other human beings, and wishing that I could do something, anything, to help those that were injured and their families. Silly, I know, but I did.

Nursing the hangover from h3ll and due to leave to get to the hairdressers to have my highlights done. I was wondering how I was going to survive when he bent my head over the sink.
It flashed up on the news. Mum came down just out of the shower, still all toweled up, sat down and after five minutes asked what film I was watching!
About the same time she asked that I realised I had two friends working near and in the twin towers.
