Last Sunday, my 16 month old niece swallowed some dishwasher cleaning fluid while a relative's back was turned for a few seconds. She's been in a really bad way in intensive care, but you can imagine the barrage of emotions between her parents and the person concerned. The issue is understandable, but the main thing is that the little girl recovers well.
Thank you Stoke & Kyra. The accident's left an ulcerated hole near the sphincter between her stomach and bowel. Apparently this is unusual, as caustic chemicals don't usually get that far down into the system. If the hole doesn't heal, it means reconstructive surgery to her bowel. It's terrible, but she's having the best care possible. Thanks for the offer Kyra - appreciated.
Ice maiden- really hope your niece recovers soon, fingers crossed for her, let us know how she fares?
Petal- I agree with you, the distance from the tapas bar to their room would have been too great a distance for me to have been comfortable with. However they took that chance, which backfired on them and Madeleine with tragic consequences. I'm sure that they as a couple are bitterly regretting that decision and will for the rest of their lives. Kicking them when they're down I'm afraid I find really evil.

BOO, I am not kicking them when they are down. I am a parent and cannot imagine the torment and guilt they are going through.
But I think there is something not right about the whole thing. and for Gerry to go on Friends reunited 2 weeks after their child went missing, to update his profile. The cold way him and Kate have been, just does not seem like normal behaviour of parents whose child has gone missing.
