Why when Conservatives step out of line or are involved in some scandal, they are immediatly sacked or banished to the back benches. They are not slow to get rid of their leaders if the need arises also. Yet the same doesn't apply in the Labour Party?
Typical examples of Labour's support for their lame ducks, their sexual indiscretions and their dodgy deaings are, the continued support for Ian Blair, Tony Blairs support for David Blunkett, the Keith Vaz affair, and the ultimate crime of all, their support for their leader at the time, Tony Blair.

In fact even today I seem to recall the official statistics still show some 100,000 Brits emigrate every year to Australia, Canada and Spain and the first two countries certainly would only be taking the skilled/professional families.

No - sorry, I'm pretty sure your supposition is wrong. The reason why Britain needs a constant supply of immigrants (not all of whom remain) is because of the baby boom generation.
After the war, there was a bit of a population explosion. It's this group of people who are nearing retirement age.
There simply aren't enough people in subsequent generations to pay for the pensions of the baby boom. This isn't due to emigration - it's due to people having less children.
The situation will worsen over the coming years because the number of children being born is continuing to fall.
Remember the old '2.4 Children' statistic?
Well it's now '1.7 Children'.

sp........ No we're not FOURTH anymore, we have slipped to FIFTH place.
Where do you live?? The trains are dirty, filled with litter and yobs and are always late or cancelled. We have a 3rd world medical system that once upon a time used to be the envy of the world but no more. Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa have world class medical facilities where you can get a GP appointment the same day, have a blood test and get your result from the same GP within 24-36hrs, not 3 days or more as in the UK.
Even the adverts on TV are mostly filmed abroad e.g. The Citroen C4 (robo type ad) and the orange Ford Fusion that goes around a roundabout with a fountain in it were all shot in Cape Town.
The best beaches are in the Caribbean etc. The UK service levels are pathetic - nobody cares and they forget to do things or can't be bothered. Compare that to the USA where service industries are top notch.
Low unemployment is a myth because the Govt has deliberately moved a lot onto incapacity benefit to improve statistics.........and so on.
Try living in some other Countries and then you'd have genuine first hand comparisons instead of believing contrived statistics..........as I've said before I know about these things first hand as I used to be a civil servant and spent my time doctoring the unpleasant reading.

Yes a baby boom .......and they had children of their own who subsequently emigrated.
You may also like to know that you alone pay for your State Pension...that's why National Insurance contributions are collected. They are collected solely for pensions and NOT to pay for any other benefits or NHS. The fact that the Labour Govt has raided them is another matter and now it is they who need the immigrants to try and correct their mis-management.

Your argument is unfair. You can't take one country and compare it to five others. Every country has something it's brilliant at (Italian furniture, French wine, German motor industry etc).
What I'm saying is that we are extremely lucky to live in the UK. Extremely lucky.
Ever woken up by Lake Coniston and watched the sun rise? Ever walked through York Cathedral? Ever had a curry down Brick Lane on a Friday night? Ever danced in the fountains in Trafalgar on New Year's Eve? Ever gone up on the London Eye? Ever been to Funny Girls in Blackpool? Ever eaten whelks out of a paper cup in Cornwall?
I could go on and on.
One thing I've noticed - back in the 70s it was the lefties who used to run down the country.
Now it's everyone apart from the lefties.
The lefties were actually right back then (both Labour and Conservative governments did not serve the country well)...however, those who run the country down now, are wrong.
We've never had it so good.

Not comparing it to 5 others per se. I'm saying you could pick any one of them and be better off than in the UK.
Take Australia....First class medical, enjoy lobster on the beach, jet-skiing in the sunshine, walk up to the top of Sydney Harbour Bridge, The Opera House, Bondi Beach, controlled immigration.........
I'm afraid dancing in the fountains, eating whelks out of a paper cup and travelling on the London Eye is of no use to me if I'm left suffering in accident and emergency for 3 hours before being attended and picking up MRSA in the process because someone can't be bothered to clean properly. and I could go on and on too.
Anyway I'm off out to the beach now !!!

Why don't you stop digging sp1814 Dassie has you beat.
His posts are brilliant with nothing more that I could add, except to say where did you ever get your information from that the Jamacians who came over on the ship The Empire Windrush, dressed like us.
I can never remember wearing Jitter-bug pants, wide brim hats, two tone shoes and loud ties, neither did any other English man, so please don't come with the intregration bit.
Incidently you did not reply to the picture of the nice immigrant family group. You know those potential Doctors, Nurses, Bank employees etc?

Well Dassie does seem to agree that we need immigration - even if only professional people.
At least I'll be able to get a Lawyer if not a plumber!
Maybe I can move a bit too.
What we don't need is people coming in earning a load of money, sending it back home and going back in a few years.
We ought to be discouraging that sort of immigration and encouraging young people to come and settle with their families.

Errr....you're being thoroughly ignorant.
I grew up amongst Jamaican families. I know. You don't.
Simple as that.
If you were Scottish and wanted to tell me about a typical Scottish family - their traditions etc...well, I would listen to you because you know what you're talking about.
Please don't presume to know about West Indians who came here in the 50s. I know better than you.
Sorry - but that's the truth of the matter.

AOG.......you naughty boy !!
Sp "knows" about West Indian families in the 50's so lets see..........to make such a statement he must have had first hand knowledge and been more than a kid at the time to make an informed decision ( lets say 12 yrs old to fully understand the ways of the Jamaicans )
It therefore follows if we take 1955 as a starting point, it means he must be at least 64 years old now........gosh I got the impression he was younger didn't you?
Now I on the other hand did genuinely grow up in Bedford, a town with many West Indians (and Pakistanis) who came and worked on the surrounding brickfields. Very strange dress sense! and often packed 8 or more in an old 2 bedroomed house and kept to themselves.

You know whenever you see a school teacher's shoulders slump because there's one kid in the class who simply doesn't get long division...?
AOG frequently doesn't know what he's talking about. I can claim the same on a number of subject (such as the case about the Jehovah's Witness mum who chose to die).
However, there are some subjects on which I'm pretty.
My mum came to England in the mid 50s and quickly made friends with a group of other young men and women who came across.
I remember during the late 60s and early 70s, going to Sunday lunches around my mum's friends houses and marvelling at how they aped British traditions.
Incidentally, can you take an educated guess as to why people from the West Indies and Pakistan grouped together in the 70s?

sp....you say AOG doesn't know what he's talking about ?
Well you said:- "Please don't presume to know about West Indians who came here in the 50s. I know better than you".
But if YOU ,personally , weren't talking to them in the 50's, then you are only relying on what you were told. That is not KNOWING but being informed. 2 decades later, when you were growing up with them, times had changed.
My guess is AOG and myself had first hand experience in the 50's whilst you are basing your "facts" on reported speech from those 60 & 70's generations - possibly with a slanted view..

No, sweep, we're genuinely not one and the same person. I guess it's just AOG and myself are probably in the same age bracket and have first hand knowledge.
Oh and Sweep......is sp related to you? I recall seeing SOOTY and Sweep on the TV in the 50's ( sorry sp but couldn't resist that one....no offence meant )
And if you really want a good laugh look at "Should we take the same action" posted by AOG yesterday under "News". Carefully read my FIRST response in detail and see how it went right over people's heads !!!!!!!!

What can I say? Brilliant as always Dassi.
I touched a rough nerve once again with sp1814, that is why he had to revert to his old trick of insulting people.
How dare you call me ignorant, when I am old enough to speak on matters that I have personally witnessed. Events that you could not have possibly witnessed since you are not old enough. But then this as been very well covered by Dassie.
It was you sp1814 who tried to tell us what the West Indians wore when they arrived in this country, and I repeat once again, no way did they dress like the English.
Simple as that.
"AOG frequently doesn't know what he's talking about". that is rich coming from the likes of you sp1814. Who never knows what he is talking about. Hence the following sentence taken from your post.
"However, there are some subjects on which I'm pretty".
Regarding this other line.
"marvelling at how they aped British traditions".
Imitation is the best form of flattery, proving that they admired the British traditions. It is a pity that their off-springs did not ape their parents, perhaps then we would not have some of the problems that we now have in Britain.
