For what? it is set according to crime, and adjusted within a preset range by the judge. The longest one is "life" or "at her majesties pleasure" which normally equates to thirty years or so. It can be longer or shorter. At thr trial the judge sets a "Tariff" which is the minimum that the person must serve before being considered for parole, and can be thought of as the "punishment element".
