I have a bottle in my office which I just go and refill from the water cooler. But drink tap water at home.

Do you drink tap water at home?

Anyone who drinks bottled water when we have perfectly good tap water must have more money than sense.
I drink tap water at home and bottled fizzy water. I also drink watercooler water at work.

But, I have heard some disturbing stories of watercooler water and the bottles ;-(
We're lucky enough to have really nice water from the tap and I drink alot of it but I do still buy bottled water when I'm out and about. Some tap water is really disgusting!
I thought people were mad to buy bottled water until I tasted the tap water in a certain area. If other area's water tastes the same then I don't blame folk for buying it. We are encouraged to drink lots of water for many different health (and beauty) reasons, so I think that it's the packaging that needs all the criticism and not the bottled water per se. I don't know about the science bit of manufacturing, and I can understand that glass is not as convenient, but surely somebody can come up with an alternative to plastic containers!! As a matter of intertest, do those milk cartons bio-degrade faster than plastic bottles?
SKA - I do exactly the same. I drink water out of cooler in the office. But at home I have always drunk tap water.

When out & about then bottled water.

To be honest, tap water tastes nicer than bottle. Actually bottled water sometimes does smell as well. You never know when exactly it was bottled.

Water cooler for me at work and I've got a posh fridge with a filtered water cooler attached to the mains so its that for me.

Wouldn't use bottled water unless abroad - or given free on Eurostar !
Bottled water??? Just another commercial ploy to wrench even more money out of the gullible public.

Organic food is another one.

Free range eggs that is yet another one, they cover a number of laying locations.Yet battery type locations should be banned.

Refrigerated tap water is lovely - the refrigeration kills any smells and most people can't tell whether it is bottled or tap.

If our grandparents knew we paid good money to buy drunking water.

And the worst thing isn't really the non-biodegradable packaging. It's the food miles we consume getting it here.

Ridiculous.

Drink locally produced gin instead. Your performance at work will deteriorate so much that you will never get a promotion...but by gum, you won't even care after a while.
I agree with squarebear on this one. Tap water is very good for you and also, very well filtered, so there are no impurities. I never buy bottled water, it's tap all the way for me!
I drink tap water, I keep a bottle of it in the fridge if the JD's want it cold.
I have an empty jet bottle that comes with me everywhere when I'm out - filled with tap water!
I also drink fizzy mineral water at home only if I feel my thirst needs to be quenched more (only fizzy seems to do this)
I also find a difference in taste when I go to my mum in laws and visa versa but still drink tap water
Invisible, invest in a Brita filter jug, it uses charcoal filters, lasts a lifetime (you only have to replace the filters) and it gets rid of foul tastes and all impurities. You'll have to pay out for one, but it's worth it in the long run.
I stopped drinking tap water when it came out cloudy. Nothing to worry about said the water board. A leak in the mains pipe allowed impurities to enter the system. The problem is the amount of leaks in the network means our water can never be pure as there is always a leak near you.

I drink fizzy water with my meals as I like the way it clears my palate. Otherwise if I'm just thirsty I drink tap, and carry a bottle of tap-filled water with me when I'm out and about. We did have one of those Brit filter thingies, but our water is OK and so it didn't make a noticable difference apart from the water actually being cold as we kept it in the fridge!
Some people take things for granted - in a lot of parts of this country, fluoride is added to water to help prevent teeth decay - however, there are some serious concerns about this practice:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_fluoridatio n_controversy#Opposition_from_health_authoriti es

In 2005, eleven environmental protection agency EPA employee unions, representing over 7000 environmental and public health professionals of the Civil Service, called for a halt on drinking water fluoridation programs across the USA and asked EPA management to recognize fluoride as posing a serious risk of causing cancer in people. The unions acted on an apparent cover-up of evidence from Harvard School of Dental Medicine linking fluoridation with an elevated risk of osteosarcoma in boys, a rare but fatal bone cancer.

In addition, over 1000 health industry professionals, including doctors, dentists, scientists and researchers from a variety of disciplines are calling for an end to water fluoridation in an online petition to Congress

and

In the United Kingdom, the Department of Health funded a systematic review in 1999, which looked at all of the evidence so far published, into the efficacy and safety of adding fluoride to drinking water. This work was carried out at the University of York.

...

An association with water fluoride and other adverse effects such as cancer, bone fracture and Down's syndrome was not found. However, we felt that not enough was known because the quality of the evidence was poor.

The evidence about reducing inequalities in dental health was of poor quality, contradictory and unreliable.
