With a severe recession in the offing, people losing their jobs, a big reduction in consumption and production should we be thinking about choosing British made goods if there is a choice? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/staffordshi re/7686274.stm

I drive a Jaguar X and bought it new in 2000. Had no trouble with it and rarely service or clean it. It's dream of car....have had compliments from Polish motorists as the car being 'class'!
lucky man, terambulan. Jaguars have always been the most beautiful-looking cars. Compare that with the unspeakably ugly Rolls Royces. But it was widely believed back in the 80s that you should never buy one made on a Friday, and that was when the damage was done. The one you bought was presumably made by Ford, ultimately a US manufacturer. It's now owned by Indians.
Which rather brings us around to what is a British company these days.

Where the manufacturing jobs are? The nationality of those workers? The nationality of the parent company? The nationality of the majority of the shareholders?

It's not quite as simple as it once was.

I work for a US based company in Britain where there are a huge number of employees in many countries and a wider range of nationalities working here.

We have executive vice presidents of many nationalities.

Who knows what mix of shareholders are.

Buying our products supports British workers, and American, and Indian and German and... well you get the idea

The X-type is basically a ford mondeo in drag.
Doc Spok 1 Thanks to thatcher this Country makes pi55 all.

What an excellent observation.

AND I AGREE WITH YOU 200%

You would agree with anyone who is prepared to cry this country down.

Have anyone never heard of Rolls Royce aero engines, the best in the world.

Even the great USA companies, Pratt & Whitney and General Electric cannot produce an engine as good as RR.

As regards Germany and Japan, well they are none runners.

With all these cheap to produce goods coming from China you don't need to be an expert to know they were not made here. With Xmas coming up maybe we should be more selective in the junk we are giving to our kids.
