Would you still send them?

I've quite a few Christmas cards left over from last year. On the back of the cards, the following is printed:

"Recyclable at Sainsbury's until 8th January 2008".

If I send them out this year, do you think the recipients will think I am a cheapskate? Think I've bought the cards on the cheap because of the wording on the back?

Would you just send them anyway? Seems a shame not to use them. Whaddya think? Send them out or scrap them?

Cross out 2008 and write 2009.
Oh Mrs C! Send them! I would :-) xx
Of course you should send them! What's the world come to if people start wondering how much you paid for their christmas card, or even if it was purchased last year!!!
Send them. :O)
Question Author
Hey wiffs, surely that would look even worse than leaving them as they are?
mrs C I never look on the back of the cards lol
most folk wont even notice, send em
Question Author
Hey thanks folks.

I'm gonna send them. I'm just a wee bit worried in case it makes me look daft, seeing that they're definitely a year out of date. But I'm daft anyway, so what the heck!

[:o)
I would still send them and in fact I've got a few cards left too from last year and I will be sending them out.
Question Author
Funnygirl, have they got a date on the back though? If they haven't, no-one would know they're last year's cards, nor would it matter.
I have a stock of Happy 8th Birthday cards, about 200, it's a long story. All I need to do is cross out 8th Birthday and cunningly write in Christmas and nobody is any the wiser.

Wiffy, I thought about covering over the 2008 wording-bit with some decorative strip, but they are an irregular shape, and wouldn't look right.

Hey wiffs, would you like to hear about my new wok?
Tipp ex!!!

That's the answer, before anyone starts laughing!!

Besides I really wouldn't worry about the date, most folks don't look at the back!!!
Yes of course, the new wok, much more interesting than Tippexing out dates on cards.

You post about your wok, and I'll post about my exams (of which there are loads).

In a way, that's the problem with my cards, FG. I make a lot cards 'cos I like to personalise them, and I quite often decorate the back with a small pic of a dog and a cat, right down at the bottom.

So folk who receive my cards, often do look at the back!

[:o(

I can't believe I didn't notice the wording when I bought them last year. I wouldn't have bought so many if I'd realised. Thought I was doing a good deed, 'cos the proceeds were going to charity.
Just come across this thread & the answers really made me laugh.

My bestist friend always writes either a random 'price', or a little message like 'nosy', on the back of my birthdays cards - so I do it to her now!

Seriously mrs.chappie, p'raps you could buy some stickers from a stationers to put over the words & year? Mind you, some nosy person, migt peel it off to investigate, lol.

You must be a bit concerned about sending them otherwise you wouldn't be asking us & to be honest, I'd be exactly the same. I think to save face, I'd probably end up recycling them & starting again, although we're all different. ;o}

Thanks smudge. I thought about sticking a wee border along the bottom to cover the words, but because of the shape of the cards, it wouldn't look right. They are shaped like a Christmas tree but have a "border" down the left-hand side, then the shape of the tree.
Oh, that's a shame mrs.chappie, but if the words are 'really' small, then you could probably get away with it. Let's put it this way, without putting my glasses on, I bet I wouldn't be able to read it!

Good luck & nite, nite. -xx-
D'ya know mrs.c, I've just had a thought!

Have you got a slanted scalpel (the ones used for craft work), or a small blade from a razor? If so, it wouldn't take long to carefully scrap away at the words & year - it could
be quite therapeutic too.....or, you could even try the slanted end of an abrasive ink rubber!

....failing that, you could buy some new ones. lol
Not sure what happened there, para's gone barmy!
Question Author
Great idea smudge. I've got a stanley knife as I make cards myself, so I'll see if I can scrape the words off.
This is another crafty move by thr retailers of Christmas Cards. Why can't they just put "recyclable at Sainsbury's until 8th January". Why put a year? Most people have cards left over each year and if people notice a date, they are hardly going to thing you a meanie if they receive one.
