The Pope said that "saving" humanity from homosexuality is just as important as saving the rainforests.

As god doesn't exist anyway, I personally feel any statement from any religion, be it christianity, islam, judaism, buddism, jedi and so on can be roundly ignored.

However, I do understand - actually, 'understand' is the wrong word because I most certainly don't - as people do, amazingly and naively, believe in a greater being, I personally feel statements like this can fuel homophobia in people who take the papal word as being directly from god.

Homophobia is a different beast to simply finding homosexuality wrong - a phobia is an intense hatred, whereas finding homosexuality wrong is an opinion.

What I am (rather clumsily) trying to say is that the bloke is a nutter and should be ignored.

The Pope is entitled to his opinion, and I am entitled to totally ignore it!
With all the problems we're having in the world at the moment; wars, famine, aids, climate change etc. His holiness decides to speak about homosexuality!! I'm totally flabbergasted in the way this man thinks, what's more important, millions dying of starvation, or a same-sex marriage? As Stephen Fry once said. "Religion, I sh1t it"
Im sure he secretly wishes for the return of the 3rd reich.Hitler youth to aged ******** pope.

A long time in between but very littles chaged.
Well? what Gromit, what is your question?

Not wanting to commit yourself once again, or are you just waiting to see how the general flow goes?
The Pope's a fine one to talk about environmental destruction. I still haven't forgiven God for that massive flood that killed nearly every living thing on the planet. What a b*stard.
Old nazis dont die they just join the catholic church.

Btw is he saying homosexuality is bad but turning a blind eye to pervert priests , to the extent that the vatican sheltered 7 paedophile priests from the fbi , thats fine then in his eyes ??

This is the same man who headed the department investigating sexual assault alleations against priests in the catholic church.

ONLYFOR 20 YEARS MIND YOU.
Of course over-population is a major cause of pressure on the planet.

Now let's see is there anything the Pope could do or say to help that?....hmmm...tricky one.

Didn't Jesus have some natty saying about specks in the eye?

I am sure you can predict my views on this, so there is no attempt to sit on the fence or follow any consensus. I am busy today so I will not be answering much today, so I thought I would offer a subject for discussion

When posting questions for discussion such as this, I want to read what others think so I do not want to introduce any bias one way or another. Here are the bare facts, what do you think?

If I just went off on a rant about what a twit the Pope is, I would probably get people agreeing or disagreeing with the rant rather than answer the question.

Of course this is not a fallible method of eliciting an intelligent response, as your post proves.
Well I think given the number of bandit catholic priests rogering the choir boys and the ensuing cover ups I'd say the pope would do well to not throw any stones from his particular glass house.
I have just posted a question on why some of our school children are like they are today.

Well having read some of the posts on this question I can see what part of the problem is, NO RESPECT FOR ANYONE.

that the bloke is a nutter and should be ignored.

"Religion, I sh1t it"

wishes for the return of the 3rd reich.Hitler youth to aged ******** pope.

What a b*stard.

Old nazis dont die they just join the catholic church.

Just 5 snippets from 4 separate posters, perhaps some or all of these posters are parents?

Wait a minute er, just wait a minute, I think I have just found the answer to my question.

I would probably get people agreeing or disagreeing with the rant rather than answer the question.

Agreeing or disagreeing is the whole idea of debate.

To answer the question, one has to first ask one.

Respect needs to be earned. Some of the above posters clearly do not believe the Pope and his religion have earned our respect.

Quite shocking that you are able to access posters parenting abilities by their responses to this question and apportion blame on them for why some of our school children are like they are today. Very disrespectful of other posters' views.
This question is best described as

"that old chestnut"

until it always turns into a hot potato.

Whatever your views on homoseuality, there are lots of things which are, beyond question, unspeakable sins in the eyes of the Lord ...

... for instance, there's Morris Dancing !!!

Agreeing or disagreeing is the whole idea of debate.

I am not participating in a debate, I am asking for views. I was attempting to be impartial. Unbiased. Evenhanded.
Gromit is right about "debate".

Would you bother going onto a thread if the Original Poster said ...

"Only post a reply if you agree with me"

?
AOG. I was quoting Stephen Fry, who happens to be one of the most intelligent people in the country...He's also a homosexual..
Belief is 'God made man in his own image' no mention of the word genetalia or women!

"Agreeing or disagreeing is the whole idea of debate".

Gromit is right about "debate".

It was I (AOG) who described debate not Gromit, he only copied and pasted my description.

sorry
