Are we any better?

I see the rightful outrage at the actions of Israel in Gaza, but are we any better?
Israel targets building it claims are harbouring Hamas operatives and members, killing innocent passers by.
America (by default us too) bombs buildings in Pakistan (a neutral country) on buildings it claims are harbouring Taliban operatives and members, killing innocent passers by.
You don't see many TV cameras reporting the carnage there either.
Israel can at least say that it is protecting it's hearth and it's home, and that it targets the sites where it has been fired upon.
40 years ago people protested about the need to protect Laotian indepence (nominal though it was) where are these idealogues now?

In 1967, I was in Aden, and took part in the clearing of the 'Crater District', after the massacre, not something i'm proud of, but like all soldiers, just obeying orders, but it changed me, i'm not a pacifist, but now, every so often, I enter a phase of 'Black Dog', when I think of what we are capable of.

for years israel has suffered at the hands of the palestinians in the form of suicide bombers,rocket/missile attacks and car bombings on the streets, this is retributition on a grand scale...and it is long overdue the murderous actions of hamas over the years needs to be addressed and this is the only language they understand...the u.s will be secretly rubbing their hands with glee at israels actions.
i have just seen the bombs going off on tv and i remember my father telling me how british soldiers (3) were hanged in what is now israel, looking on the web just found this
A pamphlet warning Britons to leave the Middle East or face death has come to light in a stash of illicit propaganda.
The document does not hail from Basra or Baghdad, nor was it penned by the Islamists of al-Qaeda or the al-Mahdi Army. It was found in Haifa, about 60 years ago, and it was issued by the underground group led by Menachem Begin the future Prime Minister of Israel and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.
The document, which surfaced at an auction house this week, is addressed to the soldiers of the occupation army and aimed at British soldiers serving in Palestine, then under the British Mandate, preceding the establishment of Israel in 1948

The point I'm trying to make is that we are involved in similar actions in Pakistan, Pakistan is not a beligerant in the the Afghan war.
We are bombing a neutral country and in the desire to take out our enemies killing innocent civilians in the process, if you wish to condemn one perhaps you should condemn the other?
Britain was represented at Menachem Begin's funeral (which it should'nt really have been, Thatcher and terrorists eh) the post is'nt actually about the history of Israel (we are we are) but Pusspuss if you go to Religion and Spirituality you will find (what I think) is a really thought provoking treatise on the causalities of the Israeli nation.
Although others seek to disagree.

tatu, I would advise you to be sure of your facts before you place your fingers on the keys. Do you realise how many "terrorists" of the past finished up sharing government and in some cases leading it. pusspuss mentioned one very good example earlier. You obviously have no knowledge of the area and have never been there. hth
Lonnie the feelings you get are not unusual, you should go to your local British Legion and see waht they can do for you.
I don't know much about the Aden emergency, I tend to read the earlier Victorian conflicts and of course the Great War.
You should post in history and military about it when you feel like that, get it off ya chest.

theres a big difference between islamic terrorists and the i.r.a. or loyalist terrorist groups..hammas cannot live in peace with israel -ever!!,,also hamas has consistently called for the annialation of israel...to wipe israel of the face of the earth....where were the protests when israel was being rocketed? when have the arab league ever spoken out against the many suicide bombers? why didnt the palestinian people speak out when hamas was bombing israel? do u think u would be leading a decent life in this world when the muslim extremists over run us in the u.k....they,ll will make the i.r.a look like a bunch of clowns that for sure..people here are soft on terrorism..should hang the lot of them like animals they are.
