The Immigration Minister Phil Woolas MP is literally being confronted now on live TV about the plight of the Gurkhas and is virtually being told by Ms Lumley what's going to happen!

I sympathise with Miss Lumley.
I sympathise with the Gurkha's plight.
I have some sympathy with Whiffey's point.

BUT,,,for better or worse, who is running the country, Miss Lumley or the Government?

We voted in the New Labour Government, not government by TV charade.

So basically then, sqad, people must put up and shut up in the five years or so that elapse between each general election, and are not entitled to raise issues (by whatever legal means they wish) with members of Parliament and Ministers. The executive can do whatever it likes (whether or not it was in its party�s election manifesto) and we�re stuck with it.

That being the case, we might as well dispose of the House of Commons entirely and simply elect an executive government which can do just as it likes, regardless of public opinion.

The �TV charade� that ensued yesterday was no more or less unacceptable than some of the TV charades that the government has stage-managed over the past few years. The only difference was that this time it was a �dissident� who was doing the managing. In the words of Lance Corporal Jones, �They don�t like it up �em!�

I think Joanna Lumley is doing a brilliant job The Gurkhas deserve to be treated as british citizen's after all they laid down their lives for this country, god knows why when there are ungrateful people like Whiffey about.

Maybe whiffey would be better crawlin back under the stone he crawled out of!!!

She's not stupid. I liked it when she announced she'd spoken with Gordon Brown and he'd assured her he was going to take the matter into his own hands and do the right thing by the Gurkhas and she trusted him to do that and her faith is now restored by this wonderful man.. etc etc.

Talk about forcing his hand. He basically now has to deny what she's said and look like a lying untrustworthy t0sser who broke his word, or go along with it.

New Judge.....I am all for peaceful demonstrations and free speech, but what we saw on TV, was Miss Lumley clarly dictating policy to the Immigration Minister.

Yes, I agre with you Judge....what is the point of a democratically elected Government when policy is to be determined by demonstrations peaceful or otherwise.

Yes....you vote them in on their referenda and then put up or shut up. If you are not happy vote them out at the next election

Miss Lumley will succeed, but which campaign will then follow ? Not a way to run a country in my opinion.
