Voters in Leeds + Manchester have helped to elect two BNP members to the European Parliament.
Should those voters be admired for exercising their democratic rights?
Or should they be roundly condemned for helping to elect such an extreme racist party to British Politics?

why should someone have to move away from their home because they aren't happy about it being over run with eastern europeans

yes these people are willing to work hard for less money and drive around in older cars, may of which do not have MOT's tax or insurance the drivers do not know the laws/rules for driving in britain

they have a totally different way of live to the communities they are moving into.

There is a village close to me where there is a vegetable processing factory, over the last year they have systematically got rid of any british employee who was there and replaced them with eastern european labour who have taken over the village to.

They leave rubbish all over the place, dont use their wheelie bins, violent crime has gone up in the village, crime using weapons has increased and the whole place, there is dogs running around wild the whole place looks like a romanian slum!

Should this be condemned or is it justifiable?
Jake you just cant stand that peple have views other than your own limitied and bigotedone can you.

It is becasue you you and you arrogant Noo labour luvvies that the BNP is getting these votes. Labour are to blae wholly, if you ignore masses of people they will react, democracy or not. If labour started listening instead of calling people racists then this would stop. I susopect most people are not really racist they are afraid for their way of life, continually eroded bu Blair/Brown.

So blame them, not the thousands of dissilusioned votors who voted BNP.
That's exactly what's happened here too Dan. Then people are suprised when we try to fight for our jobs and our communities. Well I for one, am not going to roll over and give up.
if you step back and look at it a little more you will soon realise that both Manchester and Leeds have a high number of indian/muslim/whatever people living there. maybe we should ask ourselves why the voters in those cities have chosen to vote that way.
For the reasons both Dan and I have outlined above.

It's not so much the Muslims, more the Eastern Europeans who are destroying our communities.
But what would the BNP do?

Remember the BNP do not support enforced repatriation, so is a vote for the BNP a protest vote? A wasted vote? Why don't the BNP do well in South London? Why don't they field candidates in areas with a high black population?

Presumably because the black population do not work for pennies, taking jobs from other people.
The critical word is "WON". They won 2 seats by the democratic method. However outraged (or not) you may be, they have won 2 seats. Maybe at last this will supply a huge wake-up call to mainstream politicians who are consistently turning a blind eye to some really deeply felt emotions. If there is a huge influx of Eastern Europeans, if muslims are permitted to chant insults to returning troops, then this is what is going to happen.
Question you should all be asking yourselves is WHY did people vote for them!!!
Because of the reasons outlined above Bernie. We have had enough and this is as good a way as any to get our voices heard.
A better question would be why did they get less votes than in 2004???
record low turnout at the polls ?

Maybe in your area but here in Yorkshire they got more support than ever, enabling them to get a seat.
This is not a great result for the BNP even though they have their first 2 MEPs.

At a time when Labour's vote dwindled and they were down 6.9%, the BNP only increased their share from 2004 by 1.3%, even the Greens increased their share by more.

At a time when the populous were greatly dissatisfied with the main parties, they would have expected to have done better.

Obviously this will not translate to a General Election, as they won't get elected by coming 5th.
I think people have exercised their democratic right to make a protest vote. I don't believe this will result in long term gains for the BNP, but it might encourage mainstream political parties to stop ignoring the genuine concerns of many people over the questions of immigration and European political unity.
Let's hope so. I'm no racist. I just want a fair deal.
another view, im not judging you because you have exercised your right to universal suffrage of your own volition. i just wonder what you think it might achieve.

poland and seven other eastern european countries had their doors opened to europe in 2004 the four freedoms so as far as i know the influx of these people is not something that can be prevented no matter how much you dont like it. the only thing the bnp might plan to do is to cut any benefits they might get, they cant do anything about them taking the jobs. article 12 of the EC treaty prohibits discrimination on the basis of nationality so they would be empowered to do sod all about your job and your town. but it does give them an opportunity to nuzzle into the EU trough. i fear expenses fraud in the eu would make the Uk one look like someone taking a couple of bic pens from the office stationery cupboard.
Which is why I want out of the EU. They can stop them getting our jobs if we are not governed by them.

Close the doors now before the country goes all the way down the pan!

Record low turnouts always reflect in a greater number of votes for 'protest parties'.

I'm not seeing that this time.
