MPs' Expenses Debate: 100? MPs Present.

Harriet Harman has just set out the criteria for future administration etc of MPs' Expenses in the House of Commons and it appears like there are no more than about 100 "Honourable Members" present.

Is the size of the turnout a true demonstration of their contrition for their recently exposed misdemeanours?

Or just another example of their arrogance towards the electorate?

A lot of committees take place during the afternoon. Just because the chamber wa empty does not mean they are not interested.

The time to attend is when it is debated and voted on

I remember many many years ago on the Two Ronnies, they were doing their mock "news" at the end.

One of the news items was:

"In parliament today MPs voted on whether to make atttendance in parliament compulsery. The plan was defeated by 2 votes to 1".

All these committees and sub-committees were meeting at the time you mention. Most parliamentary work is not done in the chamber.

Gromit:

1 star for industry, but the fact is that given the national furore concerning their expenses scandal, still ongoing, they could have spared half and hour to hear what was to be implemented and, if necessary, had their say.

Too many chose not to and I'd take bets that hardly any were dealing with the matters you so diligently listed.

Their arrogance for the hand that feeds them remains undiluted.
