I have just looked up about rescue training at public pools because they are usually fully clothed when that is practised.

They stipulate that man made fibres are fine and do not pose a health risk but jeans, T-shirts and wooly socks are a definite no-no.

So if the Burkini was made from a man made material, it would not pose a danger to health or hygiene and should be allowed.

Gromit...did they mention sanitory towels?
I still think they shouldn't be allowed. They could have a waterproof bomb under there..... waits for the blasting

If they want to swim that badly, like I said before - find a private pool or swim in the sea.

salla...quite......I think that i spelt sanitary incorrectly.
sqad - while you're on: rinkins has posted a picture of me in the thread 'post a link to a picture' - just in case you're curious.

(Hair just right, and I do have a blouse in just that colour and style). What do you think - do I pass muster?
It has nothing to do with hygiene, or anything else as many others said that people do urinate in the pools, majority do not even wash their bums after going to toilet (muslims do a part of daily hygiene) So it is ok to swim with all that in the water but someone wearing what you do not like. I think it is only due to the word "Muslim".

You think wrongly then.
not at all keyplus - despite my last rather tongue-in-cheek comment, it is nothing to do with the word Muslim. If you read my previous posts you will see how I've tried to justify my stance or opinion.

Would a nun allowed to swim in her habit?
My reason for saying an emphatic 'no' is nothing to do with her religion - just that it should be one rule for all, or else find somewhere else to swim where you can wear what you like.

Actually, Sal, I wouldn't want to swim in a pool where blokes are wearing trousers and shirts either.
I still think they shouldn't be allowed. They could have a waterproof bomb under there..... waits for the blasting

It wouldnt be a bomb sallabananas, it would be a torpedo!!!
So, it is established that female lifesaver are allowed to practice in clothing made of man made fibres with no fears over hygiene, but muslim women should be banned.

That would be a clear case of discrimination.

Maybe the solution is to ban all women from training to be lifesavers public swimming pools too?
leave it - its only hazardous to the wearer
Keyplus makes a good valid point. I always wash my bum in the sink after a crap

The wife goes mad if i don't take the dishes out first
As muslim women aren't supposed to mix with men - why would these women be wearing it in a pool anyway? What if a man jumped in the pool?
...she would remove her burkini...
because the next thing is they'll be demanding women-only swim sessions with the wearing of burhkinis, or even the full paraphenalia, allowed.

Go to the sea woman if you want a swim, there's a lot of it about.

Gromit, This is not discrimination. Lifesavers practice in clothing for very good reasons and perhaps if this lady had the appropriate qualifications she'd be welcome to train as a lifesaver when the pool is closed to the public, which is when training takes place. However, she would not be allowed to work with the public when fully dressed, just as male lifesavers are not allowed to do their jobs in, what the authorities deem to be, inappropriate clothing. If the rules were changed to accommodate her, I wonder where it would end? Would people who are embarrassed by their bodies claim the right to swim covered from head to foot too?

Have a look at this. http://www.cambridgemuslims.info/services/Ladi esSwimming/

It's a Muslim women's swimming club and the rules say that non-Muslim women are welcome, but they must cover to the knee. Seems everyone has their rules, and everyone is expected to abide by the rules.
Every time I see one of those poor women in a burkha (think thats how you spell it ) or that hideous burkini - I always think HAVE THEY NEVER HAD A HOT FLUSH.....................................
lol Den - it must be awful.
Hi Salla - I could'nt be doing with al that coverage - how on earth would they be able to place the packet of frozen peas on their face in Tesco..............................yes I have done that !
