That is precisely what it is for some.
I would wager, a very large percentage of tourists to southern Poland, must visit out of morbid interest.
If it was torn down and a proper memorial built such as the WW1 Menin Gate Memorial (Ypres); or the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, I wonder then how many 'tourist' would then bother to visit?
No need for the implements of mass extermination to go on show, to remind people of man's inhumanity to man.
Perhaps we should wheel out the block and axe onto Tower green, or the gallows at Tyburn, or perhaps the rack even, plenty of tourist attraction in these.
