Does one feel sorry for this hypocrite who shed crocodile tears over the death of his baby daughter.

Normally I would say yes for a person in these circumstances, but in his case, not one bit.

This is the man who sends young men & women to their deaths almost on a daily basis, without showing the same emotion.

I dislike Brown intensely, but I wouldn't want to see anyone to go through the pain of losing a child.

You're out of line here AOG, I am no fan of Brown but I think he was genuine on this issue. He's a hard nose cynical politician but in there somewhere is just a bloke who lost a child.

David Camreon also lost a child. The big difference seems to be that DC is not using the death of his child for commercial and political gain.

I do belive that the tears shed by GB are genuine, as they would be by any father, but who has either decided to, or let himself be led into, using the death of his child as a way to garner favour with the tabloid media.

As a Dad i feel pity for the man who has lost a child, regardless of who he is; but to see the dead kid being used as a vote grabber is just wrong. He's not some Z-lister celeb trying to sell a cr@p book about 'his journey so far', he's the Prime Minister for christ sake!!

I said no because~
I have been voting since approx 1950.
Since then I have seen many politicians use all sorts of ploys to win votes/attention.
Gordon Brown is no different.
I appreciate that the tears MAY be for his baby,just don't ask me to believe it.
I am sorry if this offends,but this is how I view all politicians,they have made me very cynical.

John McCain fighting in Vietnam. John Major growing up in working class Brixton. Margaret Thatcher being a housewife. Paddy Ashdown's army background.

You make a judgement based on their whole individual.

I would refer you to Jackie Kennedy who lost her last baby when it was 2 days old.
John Kennedy was "out of touch" in the arms of his latest mistress,and did not return to his wifes side until three days! after the baby had died.
About a week later,being interviewed,he started to blub.However,as one of his aides said later,as soon as the camera was oof he stopped and never ever (during the remaining short months of his life) referred to the baby (Patrick) again.

What I AM saying is Brown is a politician,and they will ALL use the media etc to try and stay in power,or to get into power.
Manipulation of the people is the name of the game today.
Nothing is TOO low for a politician to use.

I know what you are getting at aog ,no i don't feel sorry for him yes he is using it to get the sympathy,people can say what they like if they disagree ,his wife was sitting in tears would anyone just sit there and carry on the interveiw i think not ,most sincere people would have been up comforting their wife!!

One of the problems with being a politician is that what ever you do is analysed:

The question is asked and Brown:

Replies as he did: people then say that his tears are crocodile tears and he should have comforted his wife.
Replies but sees his wife in tears and goes to comfort her: people complain that he is not answering questions and is too emotive to be an effective leader
Replies without showing any feelings: People say that he is a machine and obviously has no compassion.
Asks politely to move on - interviewer repeats the question phrased slightly differently several times until a response is forthcoming
Walks out of interview - people say that he can't handle stress.
Loses his temper - ditto - stress levels.

No matter what he does, it can be spun by people who dislike him for their own means.
