no flying england flags

Its probably just a rumour about the pc brigade gone mad and i don't know if its about the world cup or olympics or both, but apaprantly we can't have england flag or union flags flying outside our house because its racist!!!!!!!!!

Is it true, and if so, for which event?

It's World Cup Year molly and England are participating in South Africa. Competition starts Fri 11th June so fly whatever you fancy flying. I haven't got a Flag so I'll be flying my LongJohns from the Chimney Pot...........

its a rumour, people were discussing it in english, but i don't know if they said the footie or olympics. hence i said, 'its probably just a runmlur about the pc brigade gone mad.'

rumours mean nothing until they have been printed and distributed countrywide.

You need planning permission for a proper flagpole anyway because flags are very noisy when they flap about and can annoy neighbours.

I expect England ones or Union Flags would be okay, because they are more well mannered and considerate than other flags.

I think this came from a newspaper article where they said that anyone who flew the St George's or Union flag were chavs!

You need planning permission if the flag is over 2.8 meters tall - my step father wanted one a while back so I looked into it.

There may of course be local by-laws in place in certain areas.

This probably came from that story a few days back about the woman in Nottingham who draped the road in pennants and the council got funny with her and then backed down

You don't need planning permission to fly your country's flag, or the Union flag, on pole under 2.8m.
Under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, flags come with the definition of "advertisement". Their display is controlled by the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) Regulations 1992.

You can have them, but it's how they get interpreted. There's a pub near us that sports them all the time. Nice, you'd think. Problem is it's well known locally that you're not welcome there unless your ethnic type is caucasian or aryan. Now, I'm proud to be English and proud to fly her flag, but not if it carries the definition put upon it by the fascist scum who have hijacked it for their own twisted purposes.

And then, of course, there are those who 'proudly' fly the flag for England during the World Cup and pronounce themselves patriots, yet can be heard in the next breath whinging on about what a lousy country it is to live in and how they wish they could move to Australia or wherever.

My neighbour tao doors up has had an england flag flying from a full height flagpole for well over a year now, he got planning permission from the council too, it's a rumour that people can't fly their flags, if they couldn;t then all the manufacturers of the world cup memorabilis are going to be rather out of pocket
