Not nearly as silly as it sounds here, Pastor Jones is having a Koran burning ceremony in a little corner of Florida on Saturday, meanwhile thousands of miles away we have young men and women fighting in Afghanistan to rid the world of terrorism!
Already Muslims in Afghanistan and Pakistan have taken to the streets to protest and quite frankly I don't blame them, this 'man of the cloth' and I use the term loosely, wants arresting for inciting trouble...which will have far reaching consequences
thats what I meant by this preacher burning the Koran.. thats his way of speaking up... I'm not saying its right - but its him standing up for his religious beliefs and his God and his people.
I guess he also wants to offend the Muslim world too in the way that he perhaps feels offended by 9/11
"He should be stopped at all costs, not because I actualy object to him doing it, but because the people who do object will kill because of it. "
Why should we constantly bow down through fear of upsetting the extreme muslim world? They burn our flags and make effigies of our leaders and trample on our dead soldiers memories - yet we cannot fight back other than in silence...
Then when THEY get offended they threaten us...
Its double standards all the way. I realise that this pastor is stirring up a lot of extreme emotions... but why is it we are never allowed to stand up for something we believe in?
The Western world did not react with hatred when they burned our flags and burned effigies of our politicians... and we would not react with hatred if they burned a Bible...
Yet they immediately jump to make threats when one small man decides to act and do something they find offensive.
Where will it end? Will we continue to stay silent through fear of upsetting and enraging them.. or will we fight back for our beliefs and a whole new war ensues?
And all in the so called name of religion!!! Jees
Did we see Christians burning effigies of Prof Stephen Hawkins when he stated that God did not make the world? No... of course not
I don't think burning a holy book is an awswer Nosha, wouldn't that make us just the same, easch religion has it's own teachings and beliefs and a lot of wars have been caused through it, these people are fanatics who have had this kind of mentality instilled in them, I doubt it hasn't anything at all to do with the Koran either
This kind of topic does really worry me... and more so the outcome... as these extremists seem to need no provocation to start an attack on innocent people.
They are bullies through and through - and it takes guts to stand up to them...
I trust the idea of giving a Muslim terrorist a Christmas present was an intended pun.
A lot of these things depend on where one draws the line. We believe we have the right to freedom of action, but this is not an unlimited right. That is what we have laws and the idea of proper behaviour for.
Should someone be allowed to give major insult to a large portion of the world's population just because they are disgruntled and want to hit out ? Isn't there a case also to consider the probable consequences and refrain from making matters worse ?
It is difficult, one does not want a totalitarian government specifying all you may and may not do, but if one has freedom one needs to avoid abusing it, and take up one's responsibility to act in a decent manner.
This guy may love the publicity but what he is doing is beyond the Pale.
Why should we stay quiet? For the sake of peace? There are a certain section of so-called civilised society who do not want peace - speaking out against them or keeping quiet will not alter anything.
Like you said, they can burn effigies, flags, bibles and we are not supposed to utter a word of protest? However if some (okay, madman but mad in a different way) pastor threatens to burn the Koran.....
I understand your point... but whether we react to them or choose not to react - their anger hatred and loathing of us continues.
They will continue to burn our flags. Is this man as bad as them for burning the Koran... probably in some way yes.
I dont know what the alternative is - since quiet negotiation and teaching acceptance of others religions isnt working.
These people despise everything we stand for and want us wiped off the face of the earth... why cant we not just be left to continue living how we want to - and them too?
Why must we conform to their beliefs?
Its all insane

I guess he also wants to offend the Muslim world too in the way that he perhaps feels offended by 9/11
(of course that is if you believe that Bin Laden actually had anything to do with 9/11 in the first place)
I do think that sometimes "we" are as bad as "them".. and we are caught in a vicious circle of retaliation... a bit like a marital argument with one person always trying to have the last word.
No one is conforming to anyone's beliefs. No one is backing down. This is purely about a grievous insult threatened, and probably will be done just to hit out. Flags are a secular representation, not a religious one, and so are a much less sensitive subject. Consequently are not a good comparison. This is purely about one or more people wanting to infuriate others because they can. The pastor needs a good spanking. The subject doesn't deserve this length of thread discussion.
