Gays and paedohiles - "they're all the same"
Can someone explain why some people cannot recognise the difference between a relationship between two adults, and the forced sexual relationship (often accompanied by threats) between an adult and a child?
I've just read a thread where someone commented along the lines of 'paedophilia is bad but two men togther is not far behind".
How popular is this (slightly bizarre) point of view?
Is it the natural extention of the Pope's claim that saving the world from homosexuality is "Like saving the rainforests"
The rants of religious dinosaurs, or somehing genuine concern?

Yes, we do live in a democracy. Yes, you absolutely have the right to hold your views.
But consider the reason that right exists? The reason is that democracy is a system that accepts plurality of views, and the reason this freedom is protected is partly because it's just easier but mostly because if people can argue and exchange their...

Most societies seem to have worked out the sibling-marriage issue on the basis of observation and practicality: nature takes care of the rest. Every modern community can cite instances of sibling relationships where the kids have been OK but for the most part the genetics go wonky so the offspring become decreasingly viable - so over long periods of time society decides it's a bad thing, and provides laws to enforce it.
no the nature or nurture theory is not about being gay or not its the home environment the child is in and th influence of the parents .. homosexuality is not a life choice. it is inherent.. no wonder gay men and women " stay in the closset " as they know the reception they will receive from some people................
I don't know why the RC church is automatically demonised in these threads. In my experience of over 50 years both homosexuality and paedophilia were far more prevalent in the C of E (which does not demand celibacy of its ordained ministers). There is a certain Anglican theologicalcollege in Oxford, which, because of its outrageous reputation at the time, had to be literally cleansed like the Augean Stables some 30-odd years ago by a former Archbishop of York on his appointment as Principal.
sp1814 Siblings and cousins are advised not to have sexual relationships because mental and physical deformities can occur. It was not stated how the children of the incestuous father /daughter relationship in Austria turned out. I suspect the interbreeding of families over a period of years/generations results in deformities etc. However, sex between siblings and young cousins cannot be placed in the same mould as adult/child relationships.

I hear what you say, but I was answering joeluke's post which in itself was a response to the illogicality of laws banning consenting adults having a sexual relationship (he pointed out that siblings can't).
My point was that there are medical reasons why siblings should not have sexual relationships - as opposed to gay men and lesbians.
I wasn't comparing sibling incest to paedophilia.

That's a shame...
If you'd read further you might have read the parts about the first cases of HIV were found some 90 years before the first cases found in gay people

Still, if a single paragraph supports your view why bother reading the rest, eh?
