Can someone explain why some people cannot recognise the difference between a relationship between two adults, and the forced sexual relationship (often accompanied by threats) between an adult and a child?

I've just read a thread where someone commented along the lines of 'paedophilia is bad but two men togther is not far behind".

How popular is this (slightly bizarre) point of view?

Is it the natural extention of the Pope's claim that saving the world from homosexuality is "Like saving the rainforests"

This is usually said by someone that is putting up a strong barrier maybe because they're hiding something themselves. maybe a gay liason when they were younger or homosexual thoughts they are confused and ashamed about.

It constantly amazes me when people who I consider to be intelligent come out with comments like that. What goes on between 2 consenting adults is no one else's business and has no relation whatsoever to paedophilia - that's like saying rape and consensual sex are the same thing which they obviously are not! It strikes me though, that a lot of the folk who are obsessed with 'the gays' (as they call them) are a little too interested and maybe that says more about them than it does about anyone else.

Ignorance breeds fear, and this is never more so than in the field of sexual orientation.

Men are largely afraid of homosexuality - they cover it with their ribald jokes and barely submerged hostility, and it is all too easy to lump every misunderstanding together - saves time and mental efort, specially when mental effort is a seriously limited resource.

Each generation moves forward. My father's generation were typical queer-bashers, verbally if not literally - I have a far more tolerent attitude, and my children embrace difference in other people.

So no, I don't think that view is the norm - except in the fervent followers of the Catholic church, but as i have mentioned on another thread, rightiousness leads very quickly to slef-rightiousness, which is a very dangerous concept.

It depends on your upbringing. Would you call that natural? Homosexuality is said to be a human condition, but paeodphilia is not. This is not a 'slightly bizarre' point of view, they are both a form of sexual perversion.
However to my mind paedophiles are the lowest of the low and I only wish everything bad on them.
