It would appear that it is now illegal to burn certain books, when did this become law?

Will they now rush through laws to make it illegal to burn flags, burn effigies, being in possession of banners threatening death to certain persons and religious groups, and spitting at members of 'Her Majesty's Armed Forces'?

if the actions are intended to incite racial hatred then yes...although I would have thought that any racial hatred would be directed towards the spitters myself.

and no its not illegal to burn the koran, its illegal to incite racial hatred...as I have said before I reckon instead of all the race/religion/gender/bullying/harassment laws., there should be just one law banning bad manners and the punishment should be according to how bad the manners demonstrated were.

As Woofgang says we now have a law for religious hatred. The problem is that it only operates in one direction. To ban a crucifix is a hate against Christianity. Maybe we should ban the carrying of the Koran in public.

You really earnesty can't see the difference Rov? Okay then, it's roughly like this:-
One is done with no longer requried property (ie your old Daily Mails) in the privacy of your own home with no desire to stir up racial or religious hatred, the other, well, isn't. It was done and publicised with the express intent of causing offence and trouble.

When did this become law, AOG? On the 1st of October ,2007, with the coming into force of the Racial and Religious Hatred Act 2006, offences involving religious hatred were created.They are on the same lines as offences involving racial hatred. The new offences were inserted into the Public Order Act 1986.

There's nothing about book burning per se but there is a heading 'Inflammatory material' in the Public Order Act . I don't think that is to be taken as 'Inflammable material'

Yes it is . I have read it and I found it a load of gibberish a bit like the Koran and the Bible.
No ! In fairness to the latter two you can understand much of the nonsensical mythology but not Rushtie's Satanic Verses.and I doubt if many Muslims have actually read his book either.

Can we differentiate please, between religious and racial hatred? This would have been offensive to religious followers (i.e. Muslims) who could and do come from a great many racial backgrounds (including indigenous UK citizens).
