Why do lefties love scroungers so much?
Many of them actually have jobs so on paper they should actually hate the professional scroungers. They don't seem to mind funding innefficeint nonsense jobs in the public sector. They don't seem to mind funding 100K+ union leaders or paying high taxes just so Noo Labours 600000 new public sector workers can have a job that doesn't exist. I just wondered how this fits in with Marxism?

Left wing people have a better ability to empathise with other people.
To understand what it's like to like to live life in some elses place.
That mean they have more sympathy with those who are less able to fend for themselves.
They feel the need to stand up from them against right wing thinkers who see people less able then them as worthless and don't care what happens to them as they trample them beneath their feet in the urge to save a few quid on prescription charges.
In animal psychology the ability to empathise is recognised as a sign of higher intelligence.
The ability not to be able to distinguish between protecting the weak and "loving scoungers" is probably not

I have always favoured the 'left' as the section of thinking that does actually care about people who are not where they would like to be in life, and the 'right' have always assume that everyone is like them - work hard, get on, be independent.
The fact is, some people are simply not independent, able to get on, fend for themselves and so on, and as a compassionate society, we look after those pooer and weaker than ourselves.
I do not condone people taking benefits to which they are not entitled, but while succesive governments provide a greater financial reward in benefits than they do for working, that is the system with which we must work.
I do believe however, that simply 'stopping benefits' is not the answer. we have an entire underclass who need education in life skills and how to be able to gain some self-respect and independence.
Simpy gnashing your teeth about how 'unjust' it all is helps no-one.

I don't condone the scrounger but I agree with andy. Its about compassion, I have always been of the opinion that there should be a net, that you cannot condone treading down the truely needy.
I also hate the fact that succesive governments say they will get these people into employment, when in fact there are not enough jobs. and governments do nothing to promote jobs or industries. This isn't a matter of left or right but the culture of talk about it but do nothing.
This govenment talk about getting people off benifit into jobs when the actions they are taking will throw hundreds of taxpayers onto the dole with no jobs to re-employ them. So what they are saying is we are making you unemployed you are now a scrounger and we cut any benifits that you cab expect.
So you will be treated the same even if you have been working for 40 years.

YMB - I know the *true* definition of someone who follows a left wing political ideology.
I deliberately put the word in inverted commas in recognition of R1's choice of the word, hence the question.
"Lowering yourself to AP"
So you base my entire character and credibility on a few emotive (and admittedly clumsily written) responses to something I see as unfair and dogmatic ?
Even though I've labelled you as R1's nodding dog and accused you (maybe wrongly so) of being a BNP sympathiser, I wouldn't consider you 'low' on any scale.
