/// Miss Richards told the court her religion states she should not remove her veil in front of men in public.///

Why didn't the Magistrates make her prove where in the Koran it says this?

Askyourgran,

The Magistrate can not make up laws on the hoof. The rules about what is and what is not permitted in a court are written down and there is no mention of a veil not being unsuitable attire. The woman is mistaken that her law obliges her to wear a veil, but if that is her chosen dress code, there is nothing in law to prevent her dressing that way.

The Magistrate politely asked her if she would not wear it as it was impeding cross examination, and she crudging obeyed not wishing the proceeding to be halted. A little bit of commonsense prevailed, but that does not stop you Islamaphobes from still whinging about nothing.
So the women is aware of contempt of court then. I find it extremely annoying, I'm not an Islamaphobe as you put it Gromit, But we still live in a Christian country, and I would expect them to respect our way of life and requirements especially in a court of Law. God knows most of these Islamic countries don't tolerate anyone elses religion and I fail to see why we should bend over backwards to accommodate them. We have several religions in this country but none have given as much trouble as they do.
Only today the French courts have banned the wearing of full veil in public. Why don't we have the guts to do the same thing?
There are several countries wanting to ban it. rov
It will still only affect relatively few women, the number of women who wear full covering in this country is only a small percentage.
Askyourgran

I will repeat it one more time even though it has already been stated several time - SHE WAS NOT IN CONTEMPT OF COURT.

There is no rule banning the wearing of a veil in court. The magistrate used his discretion to ask her not to wear it, But she was not obliged to sacred to his request. As I mentioned previous, commonsense prevail - but some of you are still not satisfied.
You'll repeat yourself ' til you're blue GROMIT with this lot and still not an iota of fact will permeate their sweet little heads... awww bless!
Amend for sacred please read ascede to his request. Damn iPhone type correction.
They describe her as Muslim but they didn't what her ethnicity is . With that name she could be a white convert to Islam and converts are more fanatical than those born into the faith.
It's a bit like ex-smokers they are far more anti-smoking than a non smoker.
My thoughts precisely modeller.

Thank you askyourgran for putting Gromit right.

He accuses people of being stupid, but he himself regularly highlights how stupid he is himself.

Along with redhelen and sandyRoe they seem totally inadequate of coming to reasonable conclusions at what is written.

/// Where is in our law is it stated they must remove their veils when asked.///

Laws don't have to be actually written down to be obeyed, it is called protocol, .for instance, one would not be allowed to appear in court wearing a crash helmet, ski mask or dressed in a pair of Speedos or a Bikini.

/// Would a Christian Nun in court be asked to remove her wimple? ///

As already pointed out, this item of dress does not obscure the wearers face.

But you see these posters think they are being so clever with their diversely tactics, when in fact it only proves their own stupidity.
The magistrate politely asked her to remove it, and she grudgingly did although she was not compelled to do so. Commonsense prevailed.

Why are you still no happy?
Converts are more fanatical, are we entering into thought crime now?
So what if she's a convert, she's made a choice as an adult to live her life in an odd way, she would we ban that?
You people scare me.
Many atheists were raised to be believers, many did once believe, is their atheism fanatical?
As has been pointed out, she agreed to the request, there was a compromise found and everything proceeded as normal.
What's the problem?
Agree everton, it happened but it was resolved. End of story.

I think that contrary to what you said, she was compelled to do so.

/// 'If you refuse to remove your veil, we may not be able to accept your evidence.'///

/// The case at Leicester Magistrates Court was held up for over an hour ///

Can see the words 'Ordered' and 'Told' to removed her veil, can't see anywhere where it says 'Asked politely'

/// Why are you still not happy? ///

Because Gromit myself and many, many others are getting rather fed up with the continuing mamby pambyness to Islam's every wish and demand.
Sign of the times.
It's the victim that's being judged in this case, from what seems to be a form of apostasy (she may be a convert) to the truthfulness of her evidence based on her facial expressions.
Is this because she's a Muslim?
Shame on you people.
123 #As has been pointed out, she agreed to the request, there was a compromise found and everything proceeded as normal. #
It did not proceed as normal , screens were erected especially for her .

Facial expression is a fact of life . Ask any salesman or the reverse when listening to a salesman . Don't tell me you can't detect when someone is spinning you a line ?
I don't care what religion she is. If it was the Pope I would want to see his face.
Everton, what on earth are you talking about with your 'shame on you people'? The people here who are advocating one rule for all have nothing to be ashamed of so stop being such a drama queen. Anyone else who arrived at court in a mask would have been made to remove it with no special provisions made - and you know it. Shame on you for supporting blatant discrimination.
so what
