My Thai wife was granted an indefinite leave to remain visa in August this year and 4 weeks later, after 4 years 4 months of marriage, decided she'd had enough of married life and upped and went, she's still working in this country and now living with a more streetwise older Thai friend who I believe has given her some dodgy advice. My question is, is there a period of probation that she has to serve to earn the right to stay in this country, I feel that I have been used as the mug with the money. I have tried contacting the UK border agency by phone and email but have had no response, any help much appreciated, thankyou.

Oh dear! This reminds me of a Little Britain sketch.

you're right, but believe me i sort of knew that it would happen. believe me when i say that i have been in the entertainment business for over 40 years, been around the block, loads of opportunitys, had many women (don't mean to sound sexist or boastfull), got 6 children by 2 mothers, i know the score, i'm not some sad lonely git whose never had a girlfriend, just trying to make you all see that i feel that i've been conned, sad but true. i just want to know if there is a period of probation, this will help me when it comes to trying to sort a divorce etc out. thanks.

Helen...it has been known.

She left just a few weeks after she got the documentation that allows her to stay here. I think that speaks for itself.
Yep....some of them would do anything for a better life.

RedHelen, he sounds as though he'd have like her stay here being conditional on her staying with him.
I think he sounds peeved that he's been taken for a mug. Rightly so as well...
When was slavery abolished in this country? Can anyone remind me?

We don't know how he treated her. He could have been a good husband.
Lass when you're young never wed an old man. A line for an Irish folk song.

i can't believe some of you on here, judge and jury!! You don't know me and you don't know my situation, all i wanted was some helpful advice as to what, if anything can be done. There were no restrictions put on her by me, she worked hard for her money, all of which she kept, with my blessing, to help her support her family back in Thailand. She had her own circle of English and Thai friends, she could go out when she wanted, which I encouraged her to do from the start, due to me working 6 evenings a week I certainly didn't expect her to sit at home alone!! I did all of the housework, ironing, most of the cooking, all of the weekly shopping and paid all of the bills, I never expected her to be a 'sex slave' or a 'lap dog' or to jump when I clicked my fingers. I am 62 and she is 37, I'm a young 62, being a DJ/compere for over 40 years has kept me in touch with the 'younger generation', musically I'm well into Usher, Akon, Lady Ga Ga, Black Eyed Peas, KIngs Of Leon, Killers, Mr Hudson, Jay Z, Will I Am, Flo Rida as well as artists from my era, Beatles, Stones, Dylan, I'm not a pipe and slippers man and in bed by 10, I don't get home most evenings until after midnight and rarely get to bed before 2, I rarely drink, I don't smoke, have never, ever taken drugs, I have a lovely and very close family, who along with my friends took my wife to their hearts. As I said earlier, i was just looking for a little advice from maybe someone who had experienced the same, I didn't realise that there are so many judgemental people out there only too willing to have a pop at someone who is at the moment feeling let down. Thanks, but no thanks.
I don't know the answer.
I don't think there is an answer. My reading of the situation is that he has been dumped and is looking to have his wife deported as a form of revenge.
Can you blame him?
The clue is in the name

It's an *Indefinite* leave to remain, all being married to a UK citizen did was enable her to apply for an ILR after 2 years of UK residence rather than 5, once the ILR is granted it is Indefinite regardless of the marriage status.

(does sound like you got taken for a ride though)

(Oh and.... Usher, Akon, Flo rider!!!! that's some seriously dubious tastes in music you have there!)
