Bobbisox there is a BIG difference in trying to kill someone and throwing something near someone to scare and shock them. Yes if attempted murder wasn't his motive it was a stupid thing to do and could've indeed seriously maimed or killed someone but the attempted murder bit without his guilty plea would be near impossible to prove imo.
He was stupid......he was and probably still is a "prat" but I cannot convince myself that he threw that extinguisher with malice in mind, but was just sucked into the excitement and mayhem. Yes, he could have killed someone......but he didnt. We have all done stupid things in our life.......things that we wished we had never done and are embarrassed about.....me included.
The law should take its course, whatever that may be and he should then get on with his studies as to ruin the career of a young man, however stupid, serves no purpose in my opinion.

reasons for being fairly dismissed include "Unsuitable conduct outside work hours that has an impact on the employee's job"

Bobbisox throwing a heavy object from a roof is just pure stupidity and negligence of ones iq. Had he been on internet forums saying that he was going to try and kill a policeman there and actually aimed and tried to hit a policeman whilst shouting "Die pig" or words to that effect and witnesses heard him then attempted murder would be the charge and that charge would probably stick.
