Increase in these crimes

Why does there appear to be an increase in this type of case perpetrated by women?

Women along with their partners assaulting their own children?

The case of the female school teacher showering and buying gifts for their pupils, (which incidentally some could find nothing wrong with, when discussed in the past)?

All these have been extensively reported in the past.

It's unlikely that there really is an increase in the number of these crimes. It's just that they get reported now.

I'm not sure there is any evidence this type of crime perpetrated by women is on the increase.

Number/frequency of media reports is not a reliable measure of occurence.

Interesting, how else can one measure occurrences, if one doesn't take into account the number of such cases that are reported by the media / police reports or court cases?

Because not every case is or has been reported on.
In addition methods of collecting statistics, including crime figures, are always changing.

It's not so long ago that priests here in Ireland were abusing children and their crimes weren't being reported to anyone. Statistically the crime of abuse would hardly have existed here. We now know that wasn't true.
The reports of a crime aren't a good indicator of its actual numbers.

I can only quote the number of news reports on these types of crime, I am not saying it is an accurate number only those that are reported.

Short of these sources making these stories up and telling lies, I can only go on those numbers.

Well this has to be the statement of statements, of course not but everyone knows that, it is common sense.

How on earth can anyone quote the true figure when some are not reported and some are not found out about?

One can only quote the known numbers, it can only be more, it cannot be less than that figure.

I think this is one of those iceberg things.

So much abuse of children and sexual abuse in particular goes on in the home behind closed doors.

I expect it has always happened (sadly) but we don't have any way of measuring it .... I keep thinking about the mother in Goodnight Mister Tom.

The NSPCC may have a view. I have friends there, I'll see if they have any statistics, but again, they won't go back that far.
