Yes I know the first thing one says is "I pay enough Council Tax for the council to do the job".

But look at it practical, there is no way councils have enough resources or even the time to salt all but the major roads.

So why not let them dump a pile of salt at the end of the streets, lanes. avenues or roads? that way the residents could get together and salt their own areas.

But now having said that, why not recruit the long term jobless to do the job, at least they have plenty of time on their hands?

They do, don't they? theres a yellow grit bin at the end of our road anyway.
or low risk prisoners.......they do that in some States and our golf club even had prison crews replacing divots - in a summer heat of 38C+ and humid
We also have a yellow bin full of sand.
In some areas they do. In the next town along there is a grit bin on every street and the residents are free to grit the roads outside their own houses..... not in my town though. I wish there was.... i'd grit my own road!
I think it's a good idea it they provide the salt, and enough of it, although mostof it was nicked out of the yellow bin opposite us last year. I'm sure I read somewhere that you could get sued for clearing the snow on a public road, if you don't do it properly and someone gets hurt. Where would you stand with that?
