Elton John and his partner have become parents, with the birth (by a surrogate mother) of a baby boy.
Last year in the Ukraine, they were turned down from adopting because the Ukraine did not accept civil partnerships and also because of his age, he was then quoted as saying :
/// "David always wanted to adopt a child and I always said no because I am 62 and I think because of the travelling I do and the life I have, maybe it wouldn't be fair for the child" ///.
So what's changed?

elton changed his mind about having a child, that's all. we're all allowed to change our minds.
will he make a better parent than say angelina jolie? or me? or any of you out there? who knows, but at least this child is very much wanted which is more than can be said for lots of children who are 'accidents'.
good luck to them. the world has changed and we need to change our attitudes to embrace changes instead of harping back to the way things were in the good old days.

hi de hi sqad :o)
no, of course he's not too old, or too gay or too anything else anyone might care to level against him. he's a person before he's anything else. just because he's very rich doesn't make him any better or worse a parent than anyone else, just richer, and i don't see how that affects his parenting ability. we all wish we were richer don't we? we all want to give our kids the best we can don't we?
(i was answering the question at the end of the post actually - what's changed?)

sp...I think that I may have confused you..........I have no idea why and in what circumstances the "baby" was conceived.
I imagined that your comment about Sir Elton John "flighty and fashion obsessed'" referred to his clothing and hence my comment "
Elton John....."flighty and fashioned obsessed?"....how dare you Sir?
We must be at cross purposes.

ummm - I know they live in a different world, and I am sure money will make a lot of difference to them but I still think he is too old. What's the point of having a baby if you don't form some sort of relationship with them, regardless of money. Michael Douglas is IMO too old to have young children and if his illness progresses he may not even be there for them. And I do know that this can happen to young people too. I don't quite know how to word this, but it is not so much that Elton John is too old but more that the baby is too young. He should have adopted years ago, not waited until now. When the child needs a father most he could well not be there. Don't know if this makes sense, but it does to me.

I see where you're coming from - I really think they should've had children a while ago, and none of us can know why that didn't happen.
However, they are in the rare situation whereby if for whatever reason, Elton proved too old to provide a fatherly role - they have a spare father. The rest of us aren't in that position!

I understand what you're saying Star...
The time wasn't right for him then. He was way too busy. He's now decided to not tour again so can give everything to his little boy.
Wouldn't life be great if all parents could give 100% to their babies? Who could afford to afford the time?
My friends Mum had her at 47....Big difference, I understand...but that meant she had to keep her job and carry on working to support her.
My friend is 28 now...her Mum is healthy, as is her Dad....lucky her eh? My dad died at the age of 59.
I look back though...before my Dad got sick...If he was to have another child I would have been delighted.
