"Generalisations" in this context means,to me, that there are exceptions, but exceptions do not make a concept invalid.
In most things in life one should never say never.........but here again, commonest things occur commonest.
I added my final sentence to negate the comments that "but I know of" ect.

Out of all the replies above it seeems only Squad has the intelligence to answer the question properly. No wonder why this country is in such a mess.
It now turns out the police have probably been questioning the wrong man. They have made a complete balls of the problem by taking their eyes off the real killer.
As Squad said it is unlikely that a 65 year old man would go out and rape. This is exactly what I said in a previous question some days ago. Maybe thats why the police do not wish to supply information about her being raped.

Get off your high horse, rov.
Just because sqad's post seem to chime with your thoughts does not automatically mean that any other answers have no merit.
The police have a duty to question every single person of importance. The media bandied the details of the landlord about...........
What sqad 'actually' saif, FYI, is that it would be unusual if it was the *first time* a 65 year old had committed such a crime, my inference being that there may be previous undiscovered crimes...........

Just because they have not charged Jefferies does not mean he is eliminated from suspicion.
Do you not realise releasing him without charge and then saying the killer is on the loose are not necessarily contrary statements?
This Police may need more time to gather the evidence on Jefferies to mount a cast iron case, whereupon he will be re-arrested.
We shall have to see how it develops, but armchair sleuthing Gets us nowhere.

Why do you think the father ummmm, just out of interest.
Something sat not quite right with me with comments her boyfriend is said to have made about all the media attention against the landlord.
I do wonder why they announced it now about there being no sexual assault but I think it's enough of a warning there is a murderer on the loose, think that would sufficiently convince me to be more careful!
They have just put out an appeal about a 4x4 seen near where she died.

whilst I never really suspected the father, he did something very strange at the press conference. he constantly referred to his daughter in the past tense (the mother didn't do this), like he knew she was dead. he even said something about her abductor giving the body back??
I'm sure the police and psychologists would be well aware of what he said.
