So England's wicket keeper has found the need to announce that he is gay, does that mean the others will now have to announce they are heterosexual?

In the scheme of things why do homosexuals think it is so important to announce their sexuality to all and sundry?

/// He said he could no longer bear to lie about his sexuality. ///

/// "I'm comfortable with who I am - and happy to say who I am in public," ///

/// I feel it is right to be out in the open about my sexuality. If more people do it, the more acceptable it will become. That must be a good thing. ///

Do they think that they are that important, and that anyone is at all interested in their sexuality? I know that I am not.

<<The opposing batsmen will now find it hard to turn their backs to him>>

And people think that homophobia no longer exists.

And before the "It's only a joke" line comes out how many times is that used to excuse for racism, sexism, homophobia comments.
What's his stumping like?

I think people can be defined by who they sleep with unfortunately....sportsmen can be role models and hes happy with himself. Good on him i say. Never know way just give someonelse the courage to come out x
"does that mean the others will now have to announce they are heterosexual? "

Because if he doesn't come out then people will just assume he's straight (especially in sport). You might say, 'who cares?' but how would you feel if, for example, everybody assumed you were gay? Wouldn't you want to clear the air?

Plus, most other sportsmen -do- implicitly announce their heterosexuality all the time when they pose for photoshoots with their spouses/partners etc. Nothing wrong with that at all, but because homosexuality is less common the media tend to assume you're straight unless you say otherwise.

And as others have said, it's just nice symbolically. The fact that we're actually able to have public figures come out as gay and not get any trouble for it is a good sign that we're making progress as a more tolerant society.
There are lots of ways of enjoying physical pleasure.

It's a shame not to try them all out (well, okay ... all except one).

So good for him ... although it would be a pity if he ruled out women altogether.

The emotional aspect, of course, is a bit more complicated.
And, to give (whatever his name is) his due ...

... sleeping with guys can be quite nice.
I agree JJ....most of the time eh lol xxx

Oh ETY, Gay Pride Week is SO jolly ...

All the pubs have things going on, and there are parades, and parties, and everything.
... and street bands, and live music on the prom, and ...
I couldn't give a sh!t about his sexuality, as long as he's good at his job. He must have delusions of grandeur if he thinks any one is bothered.
Has the "ability to handle balls that are flying at him" joke been done?
It has now.
Oh, and there's karaoke, and Happy Hour just goes on all night, and some of the hotels do special deals, and ...
... and all the GWLGs are in the Princess Victoria every night, and ...
ETY, is saying they're gay really ramming it down your throat!?
Some of the 'accidental' puns you come out with do make me wonder you know!
And everyone joins in, gay, straight, young old. It's the best weekend of the year here.
Hi, LB ... Yes ... it's fab, isn't it.

I do think Eyethenkyew would have a jolly time.
