I have got a heavy cold, and been keeping my nose clear using toilet paper.
my neighbour tells me not to use that method as toilet paper is coated with a treatment that could be toxic

Rubbish, carry on.
It doesn't matter what you use you will still end up with a red, raw nose. Toxic stuff on toilet paper? I don't believe that.
As if they would put toxic stuff on it!!!!
Aye wully, that's why everybody's erse is fallin off. :)
I blow my nose in loo paper sometimes and have come to no harm.At least you can flush it down the loo which I don't think you should do with other tissues.Hope you get better soon
I've never heard of it being toxic, but I remember hearing it was more fibrous than ordinary paper tissues.

Just don't use bronco.
I find the only way to get over a blocked nose is to lie down with your head on one side. All the snot drains down to the lower nostril making it a bit easier to breathe out of one. Then change sides so the other one clears.

Bit of a sod if you're driving a car, mowing the lawn, painting the kitchen etc etc lol
what a load of shyte; your neighbour has been poisoning your mind, wully....
Not sure about toxic toilet paper, but one of the doctors on Embarrassing Bodies did say that some people are allergic to he dye they use to colour toilet paper. Maybe your neighbour got half the story.
What rubbish! We've been using toilet paper for decades & we're still alive & kicking!
I'm old enough to remember Izal hard toilet paper. You would have had to do a lot of scrunching and rubbing to make it soft enough to blow your nose with. Have no fear. I was wondering what happened to you wully. Have not noticed you on here for ages.

coloured paper does not flush away same as white
I have been using Kleenex balsam tissues on my nose all week. It is marginally less red and sore than it would have been had I been using toilet paper.
I remember years ago watching a programme about white paper things such as white loo roll, babies' nappies, tissues etc and they said to make it white the paper needed to be dipped in bleach so could be irritating to the skin. Not sure if they still bleach paper these days.
