I have not read the book or had any wish to see the film, but what is all this hype surrounding 'Fifty Shades of Grey'?

As far as I can see it is nothing more than a mild form of porn, which is now showing to be such a problem amongst our young.

No idea what the hype is to be honest.

Think I got a quarter of the way through the book before I gave up, it's utter bilge. If you want titillation (pun intended) in a film that's half way decent too, watch 9 n half weeks, or Last tango in Paris, in fact ANYTHING other than this.

The whole plotline of the book was ridiculous to me and like Boo, I thought it was utter rubbish. Wild horses wouldn't drag me to watch the film, if I want to watch a porno, I'll get a proper one.

As for mild porn, todays youngsters have easy access to stronger porn.

It might be a 'womans' book but I tried to read it to see what the fuss was about. I did better than BOO. I got halfway through before I trashed it. Utter drivel. I suspect the film will be the same.

Loads of films have sex scenes. This one just has more.

I found the book , with "her inner goddess", his smirks (a smirk? Really?) and calling her vagina her "sex" made the entire book downright laughable, no one in their right mind should take the book and film seriously.

Very occasionally a book or a film comes along which is hyped because of its subject matter and before you know it the hype feeds off itself
That's probably the case here. The fuss is largely because of all the fuss.
I was astounded that Radio 5 Live were giving the film premiere such high profile coverage: a bit like the Oscars.
Not sure it's a threat to children though not having read the book or seen the film I can't really say

I only know one person who read the book and he only bought it out of curiosity. He said that they read as if they had been written by some giggling school girls.

I have a friend who went to see it and she enjoyed it - I think that she went to see it expecting to hate the film.

I admit that I have not read or seen any of the Harry Potter stuff - these books were the last ones that I remember being over-publicised.

I quite fancy watching Paddington - I don't suppose that there are any unsuitable scenes in that.

A colleague at work lent me the books, even though I told her they would not be my cup of tea. I managed to get to page ten before falling asleep, and have not had the desire to pick the book up again.

Mary Whitehouse lives....... no it's okay......why can't this country let people decide what they want to read and see.... personal censorship is simpler than continuing to let something be "dirty" and repulsive..... we're very sad as a nation sometimes

I haven't read the books nor seen the film but it must be tame as the French have rated it a 12

I read them, it is a pile of nonsense but if some folk want it as a bit of soft escapism then why deny them that pleaser because it's a bit seedy.... let em make up their own minds!

A few people have condemned it not for its smut but for some things that Christian grey apparently does that violate the "rules" of BDSM. I've not read it, though, and don't intend to.

I notice that the writer of the article in the link has called it a 'chic-flick' That error is as offensive to me as anything else :-)

A few of you have pick up on my reference to the problem amongst our young.

Well perhaps it was the way I worded it, of course the concern is regarding stronger porn, but I just thought it worthy of a mention, the same could be said of all the concern shown on here about Page Three Girls, or even the scanty clad females in the side bar of the Daily Mail web site.

What is acceptable and what isn't?

Slow news day???? This has been a 'hot topic' since the day the book was first released on the public.
