Conjunctivitis Won't Go...

Had conjunctivitis couple of days before Christmas. Pharmacist recommended Golden Eye Ointment, which I unfortunately dug the dropper into my right eyeball which then caused the whole white of my right eye to go red!! ... I also got the Golden Eye drops and used both up to New Years Day. It then seemed to go away and started wearing my daily contact lenses again, however today the itchiness and redness has started again in both eyes. Don't want to take up Doctors time with something quite minor. Any recommendations?

Golden Eye is not much good for conjunctivitis, you need some drops containing Chloramphenicol, not sure if they are available over the counter.
Sounds like you have developed a corneal ulcer by stabbing yourself with eye dropper.
Don't waste time, just pop into A&E and get an Ophthalmic opinion as early treatment is preferred.
Golden eye ointment plus anything else you can buy OTT are waste of time.
Go and see GP and he/she will prescribe "fucithalmic or "fusidic acid" eyedrops.
I've never had conjunctivitis, but I am a long time sufferer of styes. Good luck.

Brolene eye drops don't contain Chloromycetin.

Thanks Bathsheba will ring my doctor later pm surgery he may prescribe over the phone and I can collect prescription.
Ah! OK...then see if the chemist will give you Chloromycetin ointment.
Blepharitis is a common eye condition characterized by chronic inflammation of the eyelid, usually where eyelashes grow, resulting in inflamed, irritated, itchy, and reddened eyelids. A number of diseases and conditions can lead to blepharitis. It can be caused by the oil glands at the base of the eyelashes becoming clogged, a bacterial infection, allergies, or other conditions.

I suffered from this condition some years ago DEE. My gp gave me a script for drops that sorted it out.

LOL...same thing.
Sqad.... Mamya said chloramphenicol, not chloromycetin.
I still stand by my recommendation :)

Thanks Togo. No swelling to eyes whatsoever luckily.
Listen to Sqad, it's easier - just the way I have always described it - I suffered chronically for a long time and it was the only ingredient that helped me.

Question Author
Oops sorry sqad ! Golden Eye contains this? Been using the ointment and drops for 2 weeks now....
DEE......you need Chloromycetin (Chloramphicol) drops OR ointment, I prefer ointment but that is just a personal fad.

Golden Eye ointment doesn't contain these.

OK thank you all.
Good luck Dee, let us know how you get on. :)

Are you sure it is conjunctivitis?

I was told I had it a few years ago and it turned out to be Iritis and I finished up going to the eye hospital as it got so serious.

Easily treatable with cream and drops.

Don't risk your eyesight so go to the doctors.

I believe it is also called Uveitis (though I am not sure if it is the same thing)
