It's a basic, primitive human need to believe that everything happens for a reason, and it was difficult for ancient people to grasp that natural phenomena happened without the intervention of something like a human.

Do you realise that the scientific method is a search for facts and the truth?
It is done by observation and experimentation, and the pursuit of the truth must not be deterred if the scientific method is to be strictly followed.
But, in the scientific community, the only result allowed by the dogmatic and authoritarian academic circles, must be strictly materialistic, and any notion of a 'mind' behind nature and the universe will be quickly quashed by withholding research grants, loss of promotion, and even loss of employment.
