Do Valentine’s Cards “Work”?
15 Answers
Have you ever started a relationship with someone after you’ve sent a Valentine’s Day card to them, or after you’ve received one from them? It surely can’t help if the card is only signed with a question mark, as I believe tradition demands. Romantic true stories welcomed

My wife and I, married for 60 years last July, have always sent each other cards. We also sent them for 3 years before we married. I can hardly forget the date because it is my birthday.

Many years ago an acquaintance of mine told me that the Daily Telegraph had a Valentines offer of a dozen red roses sent to one recipient, or for the same price, one red rose sent to 12 different recipients.
He said that he had taken the offer of sending roses to 12 persons – I never asked him whether he had sent them anonymously or not –but it got me thinking, and over the next few years I sent different young ladies (who I knew were not in a romantic relationship) anonymous Valentines cards.
The purpose was to cheer them up (maybe they had a secret admirer), I went to some effort to ensure that they would not identify me as the sender (which would likely depress them).
