Whats the oldest piece of furniture or item in your house. I have a victorian metal plant stand about 3 feet high that I found in a out house about 20years ago. With surface rust on it I had it sand blasted, then repainted it.

Made plain oak case by Chippendale's Otley factory in about 1790 (don't get excited, they churned out useful 'farmhouse furniture'). Face and workings by Thos. Lister of Halifax (yes, those Listers). Wood hand-carved ornately in early Victorian times with dolphins etc. and mechanism altered to 7-day.
Unfortunately my dad wanted it in the old dining room and the finnial was too tall for the ceiling. so he cut it off. It went to France and back with me. I love it and will pass it on to whichever daughter wants it most - probably younger one since she did the family tree.
Atheist, I bought them from an accredited antique dealer. Proper Egyptologists (I am not one) presumably assess the materials, the find spot, and what is known of what people in the numerous ages of ancient Egypt wore. It will no doubt still be more or less of a guess, though, so I wouldn't venture to say they were first strung together on a Thursday.
