could anyone tell me if my son who is a learner driver can drive my car with me sitting by him and not be named on the insurance and still b coverd by my insurance

You had better read your insurance policy to see which drivers, apart from yourself, are covered.

I doubt he would be covered though.
The short answer is NO
for anyone to drive your car they must be either named on your insurance or have his/her own insurance cover
which i doubt your son has
so youd be better off putting him on your policy as a named driver
should anything happen whilst your son is driving uninsured then thats a points on his licence or even a ban
and it may affect your own insurance
