In this world of hi-tech, I have noticed that many who text messages and email have forgotten the "art" of capitalization and punctuation.

Those of you who fall into this category, please take note of the following statement below:

'Capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off his horse and helping your uncle jack off his horse.'

jem
I cannot stress enough that proper use of grammar can be most important!

Haha! Great exmaple. I must remember that one.

PS Jem needs a capital J !
Lol...
Hiya Jem - thats why I am sh!te at texting. I write everything in longhand and use punctuation.
Lol, i love it!
I read this quick Jem and thought it said - Helping your Uncle Jack off his asss - I should have gone to SpecSave...
There again....the correct English would be "helping your uncle to jack off his horse".
The late, great Ronnie Barker was very good with these.

eg. Go and as ask how old Mrs.James is.

I'm a lazy cow.
Jem
What a brilliant example!
It should be made illegal to use poor punctuation. For example, anyone who doesnt use full stops will be facing a lenghty sentence.

Seeing as it's open day for pedants I have to ask whether you're American Jem?
The same should apply to those who don't use apostrophes, Booldawg. "Doesn't"
Punctuation is important to.

Let's eat Grandma

Or

Let's eat, Grandma.
I don't know why people can't talk English like proper what I does
Unless it was the Big Bad Wolf, Chucky.
Or the old favourite:

King Charles walked around the garden half an hour after his head was chopped off.
instead of
King Charles walked around the garden, half an hour after his head was chopped off.
I think most of the time it's just plain lazyness.
Then again it does seem these days that the emphasis in schools is upon knowledge learning and competition at the expense of grammar punctuation and spelling.
Have you noticed that the word "text" is frequently used to mean the past tense ?
eg. "I TEXT him last week but he didn't reply" ..aaagh !
Beat me to it, JTP.
I was going to question one spelling.
Surely that should be "knowledge, learning and competition" and "grammar, punctuation and spelling" AOG?
