My dad, who is very particular about the correct use of the english language thinks that 'I went to Tescos' is fine.

I disagree, there should be no S.

Who is correct?

Hopkirk, at least no-one has used my pet hate yet. That is using "draw" instead or "drawer", that one drives me demented!!
St Michaels was a brand withing a brand - like George at Asda or TU in Sainsbury's.......or like Per Una now at Markies ;o)
Planks, I think that was a range of clothes they sold.

Tesco or Tescos, doesn't really matter IMO, everybody knows what you mean.

lol.
maggiebee, nobody called you Hopkirk...

signed, the comma police

My Dad asks me if I've been shopping in Sainsbridge's.
lol@ Tilly.
Mea culpa jno, guilty as charged.
Way back in the mists of time on these boards (do that wavy line thing with the harp music...) we used generically to refer to any grocery shop as 'a visit to Tesbury's'. It seemed to cover all of our local rip-off emporia, wherever we were.
I just say tesco.

Must admit to saying marks and spencers though!? Weird x
