Based on what I consider a rather simple yet profound logic, such questions as these, (including considering a justification for suicide), are pointless and the only reasonable conclusion is that we might, just maybe, ultimately have found in the end that it was all worthwhile. In reality nothing is free and even pain must provide just compensation. All other appearances can only be an illusion. What is truly remarkable is when we discover through it all that the pain itself was never justified but was simply the consequence or an unjustified conclusion about the nature of reality.
Perhaps you will find a few moments in each of the next few days to deliberate the logic of what I have submitted here for your consideration. While you might conclude that it is complete nonsense, in essence, it is the best argument I have found for myself against the irreversible alternative in times such as you described. I hope it helps because I believe you are, no less than I, deserving of that which hope aspires to and envisions.
All are welcomed and encouraged to request or suggest clarifications of or to offer criticism regarding this post.

My own dark days were just simply crazy, and totally beyond adequate description.
I could always appreciate values in others, and strangely, never really abdicated a belief in my own value, yet the weight of oppression, the feeling of blackness, the involuntary tearfulness, which I realised at the time was nonsensical, could not be easily assuaged by either medication, alcohol, or anything in fact other than blissful sleep, which became itself a rare treasure.

The numerous therapies available are not universally successful. Some work for some, others for others. (Strange bit of phrasing there don't you think?)
Anyway, what worked for me was a bit of a cocktail, consisting of exercise, (the damned bike), antidepressants, time, sleep, and, importantly, posting on Answerbank, to both discuss my own problems, and also to focus outside of myself, even if it cost me a gob full of custard now and again!
Yes, even the finer points of chatterbank have some merit, when simply needing to reach out and touch another person, even if it across the vast distances of cyberspace.

It's easy to ask in the main forums what various ABers political persuasions are, but for what purpose? There are bound to be all colours there.
More interesting to know of the other four Sanctuarians, with whom I share a bit more intimacy about myself.
So, do you object to me asking for a brief precis of your political views?
My guess is that in the next general election, Nims, Mibs & China will all vote Tory, and me and Luna are yet to be persuaded. Am I right about the four of you?

Awww Luna, sorry to hear you're having bad thoughts. Personally, I do think it's floundering of a sort.... A pretty big flounder but ultimately a reaction to things going on in life that can seem out of control and as Mibs stated, a pretty irreversible state of affairs. Sometimes it all seems uphill but I think it's hard to be subjective when your own perspective is full of the sticky brown stuff. It'll warp anything that's good.
I was actually out celebrating the end of lent at some very good (catholic) friends of mine house Theland so nah, nah! ;0P (And I would rather chew my own voting hand off than vote tory, I'm a liberal democrat voter these days as a labour goverment as started by Mr Blair that deemed it ok to go to war on a third world country because a monkey president (sorry Mibs) thought it was a good idea will never get a vote from me in good conscience).

Fuzzy brains. Starman is right when he says there is no reasonable alternative to believing in oneself, Luna - and yes, floundering can include all those things - but none of them provide the solution. I have sat here for some time composing a long response, but I've deleted it, because it amounted to nothing I've not said to you before.
Politics - Until a while ago, I would have said the same as China about chewing voting hands off. I've voted Labour all my life, I detested Mrs Thatcher, and I was euphoric when Tony Blair trumped the Tories. I believe in the welfare state (but now it's abused and mismanaged outrageously), I believe in free enterprise (ever been served in a shop in a Communist country where no one gives a damn whether you buy or not?), but I don't believe that this government is a Labour government and I don't believe it has the country's best interests at heart - in fact far from it. I will never vote Labour again. I vote Conservative now.

Hiya Theland, nice to see you on a working day. I think many of us when we are young have idealist principles, but in holding those principles, we are naive enough to discount human nature. If only life really was San Francisco with flowers in our hair. When we grow up we realise that whilst we might be giving, others are in it for what they can get. I seriously think the Conservatives care more about this country than Labour does now. Mrs Thatcher did, and that's for sure. She may have been the working man's worst enemy at the time, and although I absolutely detested her, in retrospect I realise she was strong, she was principled, and she did what she thought was best for this country. There's a frightening underlying agenda with this current government. Big Brother is upon us - and from their appalling record, we can be assured that it's a case of do as we say, not as we do. I look at Gordon Brown - and people like Hazel Blears and Jacqui Smith - and find it incredible that we are allowing people like them to run this country. We must be out of our minds. Our freedoms are being systematically eroded, the long held principles of free speech are no more, we are taxed until we bleed, the welfare state is a disgrace, and this government does nothing but lie. It took a lot for me to change my political persuasion, but even though my parents would be horrified, this motley crew managed to convince me to do it. How can anyone be happy to vote for this so-called Labour party? Tell me.
Luna ...........I've had an idea ........ (careful! I hear you cry)................ART ............. have you considered immersing yourself in art? I know you have an artistic bent with your music, etc, so why not take yourself down to your local art suppier, stock up, and let yourself flow into painting. I find it incredibly therapeutic. Regardless of what's going on in my life, I think of nothing but my subject when I'm painting. Soooooo relaxing. Why not try it? You can really lose yourself in art - and you never know - it might help. I think you it would do you a power of good. Waddaya think?
