People keep saying to me that my job isn't exactly rocket science.  What does this mean? What is rocket science?

It means that your job is not complicated or difficult to learn.

Rocket science is (complicated). During the War, the Brits or the Americans never got a rocket to fly. The Germans did around 1935. The Americans got rockets to fly after they took on Werner von Braun - Nazi or not, it did not matter, he had the know-how.

I had lectures in another life, in rocketry from a member of the British Rocket Group, and at the end of the lecture course, I had a very clear idea of why the Brits could not get a rocket to fly and why the group got disbanded.

Rocket science would be the mathematics that govern all aspects projectiles - dynamics, thermodynamics, aerodynamics etc. Depending on how far you go into each subject is can get mighty complicated/very boring. So i guess it could be taken as something thats very complicated and or boring.
