Too complicated to explain unless you have the gird in front of you. Thanks anyway!
Okay, thanks. You did try to explain on your other thread but maybe you now feel the clue doesn't help
10a pt2 looks like it might be twinge

When the rest of a (quite hard) crossword is complete but one really is lost on the last few, it can be very frustrating. So yes, I am persistent.
Lavender. It's supposed to last you over the Christmas period. Have you finished it already?
Question Author
Thank you bibblebub! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
You have more persistence than I and bravo for that , I took one look at the preamble and it joined Kate Mepham's Tel GK at the bottom of the pile.

Nearly finished! For me, a crossword has to be completed within a few hours at most. Over Christmas?? why, my mind would never be at peace!
For anyone without the crossword - you can get the pdf version here http://www.theguardian.com/crosswords/2014/dec/20/prize-crossword-no-26448 - each clue consists of 2 parts with the first of those going in the left grid and the 2nd part going in the right grid; but an extra letter has to be added to one of each pair of solutions before entry into the grid.

8a: US sports player, one from HQ, linked with forward daughter under the sheets (7;7)

10a: Queen's make-up showing a pinch of colour - a bit of white included (6;6)

the letter counts are for the solution for left/right grid
Question Author
8ac left grid is baseman
Question Author
but what's the queen's make up bit?
Bibblebub, I have 8a (right) as 'bounded'.
No idea about 7 (left). 'Bolixed' comes to mind, but only because I have not inserted an X, or a Q!
I now have 7a!
Which has allowed me to place my missing X.
10a left, line(a)r
