What some seem to not be getting on here is that some conditions seem to make the body more or less efficient. It's just a bit simplistic to think that eating too much is the only reason for individuals to be overweight. There are plenty of metabolic diseases that cause either weight gain, or excess fat tissue. Then of course there is the question of "why" some people eat too much...whether it's too much food in general, or too much of the wrong food, of which there is loads on supermarket shelves. Saying they are greedy is just an insult. We don't call skinny people who eat loads greedy.
You should eat enough to sustain your level of activity. Unfortunately as we get older many of us become less active but still maintain the same calorie intake with the inevitable results!
I know why I'm 'fat', although not fat really, just a bit overweight because of all the extras I ate during boring lockdowns ! As far as I'm concerned, it's the main reason people put on weight. I'm eating less now, nothing in between meals and I can already see a difference.
Davem the inactivity due to ageing is offset by the loss of muscle so most elderly people actually lose weight. I think genes must be considered as so many overweight parents have overweight children.
I don't like to use the word fat, but I would say I believe some people don't think they are overweight when they actually are.
A friend of mine is always saying she doesn't understand why she is overweight as according to her, she eats very little and she goes to keep fit plus exercising at home, but, there are always sweets, biscuits, crisps, cakes and chocolate in her house and somebody must be buying them..........and eating them!

It actually is as simple as taking in more than you need- always. Although "simple" doesn't mean "easy".
People make huge amounts of money in diet industries, to tell people what they already know.
It's like that programme 'Secret Eaters' on TV. The couples taking part were always very overweight, but simply could not understand why !!! Until they were secretly filmed and you should have seen the amounts of food they put away - unbelievable really ...
Danny, probably, one thing that isn't in doubt, is barring accidents or illness, the lighter you are, the longer you live. Women live longer than men, and 5ft, 6 stone ladies, live to about 140 :-)

are there ??only a few cases world wide where putting in weight is through NOT eating,even if its flit putting weight on its got to be drunk,
