The amazing thing about the Irish is their ability to separate the individual from the Nation - for which I am profoundly grateful.
They find it entirely logical to loath and detest the British State (which has treated them appallingly for so many centuries of exploitation and oppression), whilst extending the hand of friendship to people like me who come in peace and want to make our homes in this wonderful country.
It will be interesting to see (once the fog of Putin's War clears) whether the Ukrainian on the Kyiv Omnibus can make the same distinction between the Russian State and individual Russians.
The video is drawing the comparison between Britain's oppression of Ireland and Russia's oppression of Ukraine - and the lack of insight by the BBC in understanding the comparison.
Well, Danny, I guess you need to have had your family home on fertile farming land in the midlands burned to the ground by the English and your great-grandparents and their children driven to the wild rocky west to escape to understand.
NJ. My family lived in a happy little village. Plenty of food for their needs and good land to cultivate, rear animals and care for themselves and neighbours.
Then the English arrived. That village no longer exists. Razed to the ground and driven out to starve or survive as best they could.
Danny. You want whole towns and cities to appreciate the evil of the English?
We're a country of villages and very small towns. They don't count? My family home and the homes of their family and friends destroyed completely....the whole village. They don't matter?
